Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds

What are the percentages? Statistics inform us that African American males who develop up in a single-parent family are 9 instances extra more likely to drop out of highschool and twenty instances extra more likely to find yourself in jail than some other demographic. However what would it not take for one younger man not solely to rise above these statistics but in addition change into a Navy SEAL, actor, entrepreneur, author, and profitable husband and father?

In Remodeled, Remi Adeleke takes you again to tales from his childhood, from dwelling as Nigerian royalty to shedding his father early in life and being stripped financially of every little thing by the Nigerian authorities. He delves into being raised by a single mom within the Bronx and doesn’t draw back from his unlawful actions as a younger man that threatened to derail his future. At each flip, together with all through his naval profession, Adeleke discovered a approach to overcome the percentages, even when it didn’t make sense. His is an inspiring story of true private transformation.

This was not at all what I expected! He shared his experiences becoming a Navy Seal…I expected that. I did NOT expect to learn more about his revelation concerning God’s role throughout his life. I never did any advance research about this book. I just read it because someone recommended it. I didn’t know I’d love it this much.

This book shows that a male, minority, from the inner city can defy the odds and become one of the baddest dudes on the planet as a Navy Seal. The book also does a great job of showing Mr. Adeleke is human, a man, and as a result deals with the same issues many minority Men deal with and honestly men of all races deal with. Remi Adeleke is just a real man who took ownership of his life, his mistakes, his shortcomings and took control through faith, hard work, and a unwavering goal to become a Navy Seal. I highly recommend the book.

I am a Navy brat and autobiography fan so I opened the book based on those connections. Almost stopped as the worst actions of a hurting soul were described- but glad I went back to find out it was much more than the Navy that led to transformation.

You need to buy this book. If you’ve ever found yourself in a place where life doesn’t make sense or you feel lost, you will find inspiration in this book. Transformed is a journey of Remi Adeleke whose life reads like a fairy tale until you realize that everything he shares came true. The story of this man is one of adundance, struggle, growth, self discovery, determination, and perseverance. There was so much content to reflect on in the book that I pulled my pen and notepad and took diligent notes to apply the lessons I was reading to my own life. Phrases, such as “The high road although it seems weaker, is stronger” to “A failure is only a failure if you don’t learn from it” to “Be someone special” provide incredible depth and content to Remi’s words as he applies these lessons to his own life and challenges us to do the same.

The book tells the story of how Remi, a young African American man of African descent who grew up poor in the Bronx NY uses his life experiences and adversity to help himself, his family and his country. He fought against repeated low expectations by many and used this to develop a strength of character and be someone special. Along the way he embraced meditation and Christianity to help guide his belief structure and approach to life. From Navy Seal, to Pastor to actor, Remi’s life goes full circle as he graciously touches the life of a young boy in Nigeria, land of his birth.

Remi writes in a way that makes you want to not put the book down. I found myself flying thru this book 30 pages at a time like it was nothing. The story was captivating, the words and message were clear and understanding, the suspense kept you page turning. A fantastic story about a true American Hero.

Better than any SEAL book I’ve ever read. I don’t read fiction, and this is not fiction. Having it be real ,true story , definitely makes it one of the best I’ve ever read. Thank you for your story, and sharing it with the world.

I love this book! Remi is an awesome writer – I couldn’t put it down. So many great life lessons of overcoming adversity and hardships,. The grit that this man had during Navy Seal training was unbelievable. Never give in and never give up. And then, his story of finding God in the midst of all of this is truly inspirational. I can’t wait to share some of his life lessons with my 6th grade students. One of my favorite quotes “Sometimes you have to through the grind to get to the goal” Lastly, I was very blessed to be able to meet Remi. He is a super down to earth, nice guy. Reading makes you smarter – get this book!

Mr. Remi Adeleke’s inaugural book is not the typical “Hooyah! Navy SEAL book. While he does, in part, get into his desire to become a Navy SEAL, the arduousness of BUDs, and some discussion of his work as an operator, the book is much deeper and meaningful. It is the story of God‘s love and redemption for a broken man and how his life has been guided by His hands from birth to today, even though Mr. Adeleke did not realize it until later. His life story is very unique and I dare to say there’s anyone out there with a similar one. That being said, I found myself being able to relate to him in many ways, and I think numerous others will also. His testimony is one of tremendous inspiration, for me and undoubtably countless others who will read it.

This is probably the most well written book I have read from the Navy Seal community. The amazing inspirational true story about how Remi survived the mistakes of a somewhat misspent youth, made a few hard decisions on his own and drove himself through and graduate the toughest Military training the USA has to offer. This is an uplifting account of how being lucky, stubborn and willing to stay focused can pay off in amazing ways. This is one of those true stories that makes you wonder when they will make a movie about this guy. Do yourself a favor and spend to money to buy this book!!

Hey RemiI want to say that this book needs to be turned into a movie, real talk!It wasn’t like another SEAL book that a lot of you all write, lol. I was hooked from the first page to the last and that doesn’t happen very often.I only have one constructive criticism about the audio portion of the book: your voice was just a tad bit low in certain portions but I read along with the audio which I tend to do with most audio books so nothing lost – 10/10.Hell, you even almost inspired me to want to join the nave, which I still may do due to my age, enlisted reserves. That ASVAB is no joke though. You told this story from a unique perspective which was really relatable to me, and I’m sure a lot of readers. I thoroughly enjoyed the read/listen and look forward to checking out any other books that you decide to print.Be well- Ian

I loved Remi’s story of perseverance and not giving up, wanting to be the best, unwillingness to be beaten by anyone or anything. I retired from the Army with 24 years of service and his story reminded me of mine. Granted my beginnings were not even close to as harsh as Remi’s. It was what he took from his mother and father to succed that I had. My mother taught school and my father Active Duty and retired the year I joined. They both taught me to be the best and let nothing stop you. Remi your story was all that. As a reader, I could understand your drive and passion even if I had not lived it. Like you, early on I partied and did the wrong thing until I finally figured it out and realized the guidance I needed was always there..Mom and Pops. For you…Mom. I could go on all day but I won’t. I just want to thank you for telling your story and I hope it inspires others who are reaching for a dream or striving to for any goal to realize that they can do it.

I have read many military biographies, they are my favorite books. Transformed is well written and very entertaining. Remi’s book is an amazing story of triumph over adversity. The type of story regular people can relate to and be inspired by.Of particular note is the brutal self honesty Remi shares with everyone… he doesn’t sugar coat his mistakes and failures, he doesn’t hide them or ignore – he puts it out ther for God and everybody to seeWhy?To empower people to rise above their trials tribulations and failures to live a fulfilled life of honorMuch Love and Respect to Remi

Started by skimming thru then started reading and cannot put this down. Reno gives a transparent look at his life thru good and bad and second chances that gave a new life. A Transformed life by getting a second chance and used this to his advantage to be a great mentor, husband and father. Gives a look at going to the bottom of life then miraculously going to the top and humbly gives credit to those in changing his life and giving God the credit. Great read.

Already knew some of Remi’s story so trust me when I say that I was VERY impatiently waiting for the release of his book! Coming from a military family and a poverty background, his story is very relatable. And it’s a story that needs to be told to those struggling who need to hear it. NOTHING is impossible in life and Remi’s journey is one of perseverance and proof that no matter what your struggles are, you need to keep getting up and fight to not become a statistic. Highly recommend!

When I first saw Remi’s book, I discounted it. It didn’t seem like something that would speak to me but I couldn’t have been more wrong. He tells his story in such a way that I believe any young man or older man who was once young could relate. He isn’t afraid to talk about his past and the “ugliness” that helped shaped him into the man he has become and how God has been able to use all of that to minister to others and become a witness. I’m so glad that I decided to pick this up because it spoke to me in ways that cannot be explained in a short review. Highly recommend!

First and foremost, this book is well worth the buy. Additionally, for those of us who pre-ordered, it was well worth the wait as well. It seems that SEALs and book deals are ubiquitous these days but this one is different in the sense that Remi’s story is one of the most unique and interesting that I’ve read so far.Sure you’ll get some descriptions of BUD/s, Hell Week, and a little fieldwork but the truly entertaining, and most gratifying aspect of this book is in Remi’s life story itself. Great descriptions of life growing up, adolescence, internal struggles, and the various factors and events that lead him to where he is today are what make this a very inspiring, and compelling book. It really serves as a great tool to inspire others to persevere despite misfortune, failures, and various factors that would otherwise cause self doubt in even the best of us. The way the book is written, the autobiographical nature, the way Remi describes his life, journey, struggles, evolution, and transformation gives the reader the ability to experience an inspiring story that is genuine, and told from the heart and the soul.Speaking of the soul, for those that aren’t very religious and fear picking this book up due to it being “preachy,” don’t fret, this book doesn’t come off that way at all. This is Remi’s story, not the reader’s. Remi’s journey included finding religion and that experience is told through this story towards the 2nd half to last 3rd of the book but not in any way is it preachy or pushed on the reader. In fact, it comes off rather subtle and it is actually quite refreshing to read it told so genuinely and from the heart. If that aspect of the book makes you hesitant, I implore you to disregard that feeling and pick this book up or else you’ll miss out on a really great story.I had to make a great effort to pace myself when reading this book. Even with that said, I read 130 pages the first day and ultimately still finished this book in a few days. Even when forcing myself to take a break, I still couldn’t pace myself enough simply because I just couldn’t put the book down once I picked it up and started reading. It is truly a fascinating story and I think the only thing missing from this book is a list of recipes like that of the mango chicken. Who knows, maybe we’ll see the recipe book in the future.Anyway, books and stories like Remi’s are a great and heartfelt inspiration especially in times of adversity, challenges, and failures. This book is a refreshing reminder in the strength of the human spirit, perseverance, and is easily inspirational to people in all walks of life.Do yourself a favor and buy this book if you haven’t already.P.S. Thanks for signing my book, Remi.

Transformed is an excellent book! I am not much of a reader but I could not put this book down. I could relate to different aspects of his life after He moved back to the States. I only wish I would have had a book earlier on in my life that would have had this effect on me, I definitely would have chosen a career in the military. Even at the age of 40 this book has planted a seed in my mind and I will cultivate that seed and pass the fruit on to younger generations. Mr. Remi Adeleke if you happen to read this review Thank you Sir!🇺🇸

I’ve read quite a few books written by Navy SEALS. Most read about the same, which is what made this one so unique. I expected the same timeline recitation of BUD/S training and the challenges it represents. I expected the writer to make it through and go off to all kinds of adventures doing great things for our Nation. What I didn’t expect is the rawness of what this writer went through in life just getting to BUD/S. I didn’t expect him to fail the program, re-enter, continue to have difficulties…never “ring-out” and eventually pass given the amount of adversity he endured. The odds were continually stacked against him…some by his own doing…some by just the demands of the program on the human body and spirit. The title is spot-on w/ respect to the nature of the book. There is no doubt that his life was “transformed” from a variety of perspectives. This is a can’t-put-it-down read. Amazing story of perserverence and strength.

Hi Remi, not sure if you’ll see this but just finished reading your book. I’ve read dozens of military biographies but yours touched home the most. I grew up without my father to a single mother in Jersey City, NJ. With the help of an Army Major who lended his time to me I was able to join the Marines (didn’t know about the SEALs back then). I went on to be an air marshal (after applying for nine years). So much of your story resonated with me. Your hard work is inspiration and your gratitude to your recruiter had my eyes watering. If you’re ever in NYC, I’d love to meet you and have you on my forthcoming podcast. Thanks again for the immense inspiration your book has provided.

I preordered the book in OCT because I knew the caliber of man on the cover. I got the book today and I read through half before I had to stop for dinner and kids. It’s a life-changing clinic on the power of perseverance, faith and perspective. Your problems aren’t immaterial or small in your world, but they are probably coveted in someone else’s. And yet nothing is beyond the changeable or the influenceable with the right mindset. Beautiful book, wonderfully written, from a man I respect deeply and am proud to call brother in arms.

Breath-taking, inspirational, adventurous, and failure defying is some of the many words I use to describe Transformed by Remi Adeleke. What are the odds of a kid from the Nigeria who grew in Bronx becoming a Navy SEAL? Well, Remi’s book will convince you to believe that all things are possible with God and people who refuse to allow you to be defined by your mistakes. Best book so far of 2019. You will not be able to put it down. I hope see Transformed transitioned to the screen.

I saw this guy on a talk show and decided to buy his book.  I don’t go to movies, so I didn’t know who he was/is, but his narrative was compelling.  He was born in Nigeria to the son of a Chief i.e., royalty but grew up in the near slums of New York.  It is better than a good read especially if you are interested in the arduous details of Navy SEAL training — grueling.  But his story is more than a diary.  It is a story of riches, to rags, to riches again by a man who refused to give up and finally found the way.I am buying three more copies of the book for my foster grandson’s from Africa, as an example of what one can achieve by persistence and conversion. It is well worth your time.

This book is a must read! We have the hardcover, kindle and audio versions of this book because everyone in our household prefers a different media type. We pre-ordered it in August so we were excited when the book was promptly delivered the morning of May 14 by Amazon. If you have ever had the pleasure of hearing Remi talk, whether in person or via his videos, then you know what an inspiration he is. A bonus – the audio cd book is narrated by Remi, himself. His story is one most people can relate to whether you have served in military or not. Everyone faces their own trials and tribulations in life it is what you do during those times that make the difference. Remi is proof that you can do whatever you put your mind to regardless what those around you are saying. A story of perseverance and transformation despite all odds stacked against him.

It is not hyperbole to say that this is one of the best memoirs I’ve read. This amazing story takes the reader from high to low and back again. From being in the upper echelons of Nigerian society to the humiliation of hawking his mother’s engagement ring, this story is told with forthright honesty. The story in and of itself justifies a positive review, but the crowning achievement is that its author truly was transformed, changing himself in his journey. His writing changes the reader, too, and brings the reader on an edifying, uplifting ride.

I loved this book. Remi Adelke is an American hero. He is a great writer who really captures everything he felt growing up in single-parent home in the Bronx after the tragic loss of his father. His story is one of hope, redemption, and hard work. Teaching himself to swim in order to become a Navy Seal is nothing short of extraordinary. Highly, HIGHLY recommend this book to military buffs and fellow Christians who want a story of redemption.

Truly fascinating and brutally honest story of a man who had everything going against him but achieved his goal of not only becoming a Navy SEAL but becoming a better and complete man in the process. From wealthy, royal beginnings in Africa, to loss, poverty and questionable choices while growing up in the Bronx, NY. Remi could have become a statistic like many of his childhood friends but the goal of becoming a SEAL and being the person he knew he could/should be drove him to enter the Navy, get out of his troubled surroundings and become a man. He is incredibly honest about his many shortcomings and failures (personal and professional) but he used them to self examine and reflect on who he truly wanted to be and turned those failures into success. He shows us that success is not always a straight path and if you want something bad enough you can do it. By the end of his journey, Remi became the man he wanted to be. A god fearing, family man, loyal friend, great son and brother, SEAL, medic, actor, author and motivator. Pick it up, you will not be disappointed!!

I wasn’t sure why I had picked this book but it didn’t take me long to realize why. I would hate to put it down at nite, so anxious to get sleep over so I could pick it back up. I so enjoyed the way you told your story. Putting it together like you were telling me. You also remind us to think back and to thank the people that made that difference in our lives. I look forward to your book about your mom. God Bless

Remi paints a picture that I am very familiar with, but the uniqueness of telling his story of culture, race, class, spirituality, manhood, relationship, service and humanity is brilliant. I am from San Diego, a longtime hip hop listener and still have my father in my life to this day. So, those excerpts were powerful and resonated with me, because I had my father to call on in some tough situations. But, once you start reading you will not be able to put it down!! Glenn D. I first heard of Remi on a podcast he did with Jon Gordon. His story was so amazing, and his conversation so genuine, that I immediately bought his book. Well written, searingly honest, so much so that at times it made me uncomfortable. But this story of hard work, dreaming big, being grateful, and never giving up is extraordinary. I’m passing it on to my high school son, because there are so many life lessons here. Thanks for sharing your story, Shipmate, and Go Navy.

I Absolutely love this book!!! I couldn’t put it down, it felt like I was watching a movie and every time I had to put it down I couldn’t wait to get back to continue reading. It only took me about a week to finish reading it and that’s only because of my busy schedule with my 6 year old. Looking forward reading the prequel. I high recommend this book to anyone who is looking to read an inspiring raw true story. Thank you Remi, my brother in Christ, may God continue to bless you and use you for His Kingdom, love you in Christ Jesus.

Transformed is unlike any other “Team Guy” story you have ever read. Refreshingly open, honest, gritty, and tremendously inspiring. Remi Adelake could have gone down a completely different path but showed that perseverance and hard work will overcome adversity. Hard to put down and recommended for anyone that thinks their life is just too tough. Would have gave it six stars if that was possible.

Learned about Remi Adeleke through a podcast and purchased his book that day. You don’t need to be pursuing a career in the military to be inspired by his story. Many people will give up on their dreams after being faced with adversity. Remi failed multiple times in pursuit of his goal, but through his failures he learned valuable life lessons. His story will motivate you to go after your dreams, and to embrace the trials and tribulations you’ll face along the way.

Maybe the best book (definitely the best autobiography) I’ve ever read! As Remi tells his amazing story, you feel like you’re right there with him! This is how vividly he paints the imagery through his words. This book is so inspiring, it had me contemplating rejoining the Navy at 36!!! I know anyone who picks up this book will be motivated to be the best version of themselves and strive for the most life has to offer!

It was very refreshing reading about a SEAL who I actually identified with. Usually when I read about guys who served in special forces, They Grew up on Farms or in the middle of nowhere hunting and fishing. There’s obviously nothing wrong growing up in those environments but if you’re an inner-city kid like myself you can’t really relate to that.In general you never hear About SEALs talk about stuff I can relate to like loving Biggie and Tupac , Being an inner City kid , coming from a single parent home , hating cops for a period of life, avoiding gangs, finding Christ , as a young black man it was a cool reading about a special forces guy who Grew up just like me.Powerful book a page turner and add a lake it is an amazing storyteller it’s almost like you’re watching a movie when hes reading his book in the Audio version , and it makes sense as he was a Rapper prior to turning his life around and joining the SEALs.

Ive read ADM. McCraven’s and SCPO Goggins books but they were nothing as personal, as descriptive, as viceral, as Remi’s journey to become a man, a NAVY Seal, a husband, a father. I finished this book in 3 days (wouldve been sooner but I had to work). An amalgamation of life’s ups and downs. Hard won goals and arrival. As a Navy vet that was stationed at Coronado, I now have a better understanding what was going on whilst hearing the the chaotic gunfire/explosions from the comfort of my base living quarters years ago “Hellweek”. Thank you for sharing your journey with us shipmate. Inspiring read, motivational.

This is a great story of a man’s coming of age, growing into his God given talents and fully embracing life, no matter what the challenge. I was greatly inspired by Remi’s life story, work ethic and success’ but more so by his humanity, faith and humble approach. This is also one of the few books I’ve ever given as a gift. It is a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit and one man’s will to overcome all challenges with faith. As an aside having had the chance to meet Remi at a book signing I found him to be incredibly engaging, friendly and truly invested in people. I am proud to recommend his work and look forward to seeing him continue to positively influence the world.

So, another book by a Navy SEAL? I have actually read many books written by SEALs, but I have to say this book is a lot different. This is NOT just a story about becoming a SEAL or doing what SEALs do.Remi takes us from his birth in Africa to the death of his father, moving to The United States and growing up with his brother and their mother, poor and living in the Bronx. He walks us through his childhood, and bad choices he made, until he heard a voice telling him to join the military. We follow him through becoming a corpsman and later, through BUDs. His story is one of resilience, persistence, and especially, one of forgiveness. This book is extremely well written and edited. The story flows well and is easy to read and follow. I think this book will appeal to more than just those wanting to read about being a SEAL, because it is a story about so much more. I highly recommend it.

This book is about an individual who truly had to fight against all odds. Was on e part of the silver spoon crew but life threw him and the family a curve ball. He was able to adapt at all levels. If you can absorb the meaning of this book, you’ll see that physical strength is so important but mental strength trumps that. Be smart and fight for your goals.

After a few pages into Transformed I found it hard to put down. Transformed is well written and the descriptive writing really helps captivate the reader. Although I am still in the process of reading the book I wanted to get my review in since I have enjoyed it so much so far. I crossed paths a few times with Remi about 10 years ago from a buddy of mine who was a SEAL. I was a new Christian at the time and Remi shared his testimony of how he came to the Lord and it was something I never really forgot. Do yourself a favor and get a copy or two.

From the moment I first read Rogue Warrior as a teenager, I’ve always been fascinated by Navy SEALs.: The Training, The Tactics, The Men. Nothing changed, even after joining and serving in the Marine Corps. I became aware of this book through the “SEAL Podcast Network” (ie…Mike Drop, Cleared Hot,…). I was immediately drawn to author’s story based on his interviews. TRANSFORMED is not your average “SEAL Book,” but instead focuses on the challenges and successes of one man’s journey through life that lead to a career in Special Forces. This book was well balanced expertly intertwining threads of family, faith, relationships and military service. TRANSFORMED is highly recommended and well worth your time to read.

I don’t normally read biographies but this one is a must read. I finished the book in two days because it was just that good! It usually takes me weeks to read a book half the size. The book itself is an easy read with stories from Remi’s life. He does a great job of storytelling and engaging the readers. There are nuggets of life lessons throughout the book and it really makes you want to stop and reflect on your own life. He is vulnerable about mistakes he’s made and how he learned from them to become the person he is today. This is a book anyone can read and I highly recommend!

Reading about how Remi was able to change the course of his life so dramatically with a firm decision was very inspiring to me. He also shows how it is possible to set and achieve impossible goals and literally make your dreams come true.As a young man, I was a pilot in the Finnish Air Force. I had a fire back then and was very driven. After I graduated my flight officer training I left the Air Force but never quite got that fire back – until I read this book. I am now all fired up about my goals again.I strongly recommend reading this book.

I read a lot of books, especially on Navy SEALS. I’m the Co-Chair of The Honor Foundation and the SEAL Future Fund here in the Upstate of SC. Our mission is to help Vets transition into a challenging and rewarding career after their military service. Transformed is the story of the Prodigal Son. In short, many people walk down a road of despair due to poor choices in life. Very few have the courage to implement a radical change. Remi’s choices caused him to become Transformed. He tells of being fulfilled, happy and at peace with life.I have several close friends from SEAL Team 3 who were Medics and they both say he was fun to work with and just an incredible man to be around. I will purchase several more copies of this book to share as gifts. I’m looking forward to seeing how Remi uses all his gifts as he embarks on his next journey in life. This wonderful book will restore your faith in mankind. Gary Tompkins

Remi does an incredible job of telling his story. It is ‘stranger than fiction’ rags to riches story of providential purpose and blessing. He keeps one holding fast to the story with compelling prose. He and his editorial team have done a great service to tell of Nigerian corruption, the street youth of the Bronx, the dedication of a SEAL and the hand of God giving ‘good and not evil’. It took me back to my days in BUD/S and the greater story, a truly American story. I highly recommend this time.
