I thoroughly enjoyed Michelle Obama’s second book. She explained so many things that I have experienced as a Black professional woman – the struggles, challenges, disappointments, and commitment to continue on no matter the obstacles; for there is really no other choice but to continue in spite of it all! I would love to meet she and her husband some day! Thank you, Mrs. Obama!!!

Favorite Quote: Being different conditions you toward cautiousness, even as it demands that you be bold.Synopsis: In Michelle Obama’s second book, she encourages you to embrace whatever reality you face knowing there are no checklists or inspirational quotes to make things any different. Sometimes, when faced with uncertainty and vulnerability, the only around is through.Thoughts & Feelings: I thoroughly enjoyed The Light We Carry. It’s a fresh way of summarizing Ryan Holiday’s Stoic Trilogy and Brene Brown’s Dare to Lead, but with a unique FLOTUS viewpoint. The book clocks in at 300 pages, so it’s easy to read, enjoy, and learn from Michelle’s stories.
Jacquelie Pollack –
As a woman who is approximately five years Michelle Obama’s junior, I definitely found affirmations in these pages. Her thoughts and reflections also helped me to be a better source of support for those in my life facing their own challenges. She speaks with wisdom. I enjoyed each page thoroughly.

Y’all, Michelle Obama is such a PHENOMENAL woman!!Many, many years ago, I created a list of people I just had to meet in this lifetime and she was in the top five. I had so many questions to ask– What kept her motivated? What kept her focused? How did she continue to smile in the midst of all that hatred? Honestly, I had never met or seen another woman with such poise, strength and grace. I needed to meet her. I needed whatever she had to rub off on me. SmileAnyway, we have yet to meet. Fingers crossed that it will happen in the near future. However, until then, I’ll embrace her words of wisdom from, “The Light We Carry” and “Becoming”; and I will always go high! Yes, going high is so much more than a motto!

We spend so much time searching for things that we think are going to enhance our lives, or make us better people, but I have always kind of believed that the things we really need have a way of finding us. This book is evidence of that for me. I had no idea how much I needed some of the things that Michelle Obama shared in this book until I heard it from her voice to my ears. I will always get the audible version of her books because there’s nothing more powerful and comforting than hearing it in her voice. From chapter to chapter and page to page, I felt like I was part of her Kitchen Table. This will definitely be a book that I will go back to from time to time, because depending on where I am in my life and where the world is at a certain time, I think the meaning and the impact of her wisdoms will change and get me through anything that comes along.

Reading this book brought an awareness of how fortunate we were to have Michelle Obama as our First Lady. Learned so many “tools” on how to deal with the ups and downs of life…and about reaching high despite the lows. Especially enjoyed the passage about being liked. It’s not necessary to get that response from people you meet and work with; it’s more important those at home who love you… like you. Confidence in ourselves is what is sorely lacking in today’s world. Michelle Obama gives us the boost we needed.
Janel Peroni –
This is the perfect book for our time. It is so well-written and brings a message of hope and encouragement we could all use in a time that often seems bleak. I was so inspired and uplifted by this book….I can’t recommend it enough!
Joanne –
This was a great read! I can identify with Ms. Omana as a black woman. We all carry a light and have the responsibility to illuminate for others. You must have high self-esteem for yourself, something that comes from your parents. No one can make you feel inferior unless you give them permission to do so. Like Ms. Obama said, ” When they go low you go high” Great book encouraging all to read it.

I have so much respect for the former First Lady, and her family, and having read her previous books, I had no doubt, this would live up to the high regards I had given those. It seems as if Michelle Obama holds nothing back when telling her story, her truth, offering her words of wisdom and encouragement to anyone interested in listening. She tells it with such dignity, as well as a sense of humility, a modicum of humor, a dash of wit, whether it involves a sense of pride or a reminder of hurtfullness and pain.Wise beyond her years, reminding you of an old soul.Highly recommend to all audiences looking for inspiration, or just a well thought out telling of truth as seen through a strong woman’s eyes.

I purchased one for me and my sister, I’m sure she will enjoy this as I am.
Sammi Heilman –
I had to pick this up and put it down a few times. Michelle Obama has a way of writing that makes it feel like a conversation, but it’s not necessarily an easy one. You’re diving into the big topics with someone who cares about you, but it’s still talking through the things that hurt. I think, at least for me, I loved the honestly with which this book portrayed because Michelle always seems almost superhuman or mythical. To see her admit her own struggles and discuss them in such a way made me love the conversations she opens to the reader.
I loved It! Everything came on time and was in proper condition –
You’ll love It

I loved “Becoming” by Mrs. Obama and “The Light We Carry” is as insightful and comforting reading. While Michelle was First Lady, she appeared like so many American women. Her well-written books confirm that she wasn’t born into wealth like so many first ladies who have lived in the White House. I’ve enjoyed reading about her children, her successes and failures, and so many more personal details of her life. I believe Michelle Obama is one of the few women who have graced the White House who can relate to most women. I admire Michelle’s consistency and drive to become better educated, the best mom, a good wife, and friend to so many. Michelle has been underappreciated by the American public.NOTE: The negative hateful comments are not from “verified buyers,” but political hacks continuing to divide this country. They will not prevail.
Be The Unique “YOU” –
This arrived in perfect condition and sits on a mantle. A very good read from our very own First Lady Michelle Obama. As a Mental Health Advocate and Suicide Survivor I was pleased to see she spoke on her struggles which is truly humbling and rewarding. Please don’t hesitate to buy this book. Well worth the investment. Thank you Michelle

After finishing this book, I appreciate the vulnerability that our former First Lady shares. It’s so rare to have someone in such a high and privileged position portray anything but perfection…. and yet here it is, truth which allows the reader to relate and feel seen as well. I love the message of strength that arises from what we feel may be weaknesses in our lives, and which often can serve as our most important blessing in getting us to our own versions of success… aware that it was only because of that “weakness” that we were able to strive and overcome. It’s disheartening to read the 1 star reviews which emanate hateful and negative sentiments surrounding political beliefs and narratives, rather than focusing on the core message that this book offers. I’m grateful that most people are able to see past that and appreciate the book for what it offers.Mrs. O lays it out perfectly in the beginning, says that these are stories and tools that worked for her. People can customize it for their own needs, pulling the tools that are helpful and leaving the ones that they find less so. I’d find it tremendously difficult to believe a reader who claims it is impossible to take a single positive message that they could apply or even just appreciate from this book, especially after having lived through a pandemic which caused all of us to evaluate the tools we have at our disposal. Beautiful job Mrs. O. Thank you for your transparency and vulnerability in a world of people that always seem to always hide theirs. By you shining your light, we all learn to appreciate ours a little more.

I loved this book, bought off of the recommendation from my grandmother.

I poured over the pages of this book, using my Kindle to read, highlight, and type quick notes and Audible to listen to Michelle Obama voice her message. It took me longer than I anticipated to work through it because I found myself highlighting and responding to so many things – commonalities, anecdotes, epiphanies (mostly my own). It became a project I looked forward to settling into every evening; it became like reading a letter from a friend and taking note of my reactions in order to compose my response.Michelle Obama’s insight is based on her life experience and a perspective that may be familiar to many but is also so very far removed from the vast majority of our experiences. Her words, therefore, are authentic and unapologetic, her message straightforward. Her book is less an uplifting source of feel-good aphorisms and more of a call to action to accept feeling “comfortably afraid,” take care of yourself, and “do the work.” Again, The Light We Carry is a lot like a letter from a really good friend who isn’t afraid to tell you the truth.

The former First Lady’s book did NOT disappoint. It is a great read. Therefore, I highly recommend this author and seller.

In The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, Michelle Obama has an honest dialogue with her readers as she faces her own vulnerabilities. During the pandemic lockdown, she picked up knitting to keep her thoughts and hands moving forward quite like Madame Defarge in The Tale of Two Cities. Women have found great calm and comfort in this art form during stressful times, for centuries.Michelle Obama then gives a list of tools that have been helpful to her as she navigated both the White House years and the post White House years. She has given herself permission to feel uncertain as most people do at varying points. That is when she relies on her closet friends when they have their Kitchen Table talks, or she exercises, walks, or talks things through with her husband and family. She looks back over her life when she was often a minority or the only person of color in the room. But her mother prepared her to think for herself and as a kindergartener, she set her own alarm clock and walked to school alone, a short distance away. She learned how to be independent, solve problems and was allowed to voice her opinions at home. She was being prepped for her future role as First Lady of the United States. This book encourages its readers by giving them a host of antidotes to dealing with low self-esteem and shows readers how to survive and excel. The Light We Carry should be on every young professional’s bookshelf or Kindle!

Great gift, although I kept it for myself. Lol!!I purchased another one from the store and gave that one as a gift. I did that because once I receive this book from Amazon, it was in such great condition and looked perfect sitting on my coffee table, I could not give it away.
Myra –
I liked it because Michelle said what others before her and Obama should have stated, instead of living a lie, in the white house or not , the people needed to know, hers books brought alot of people together and alot of people disagreed with her book.
sherry dooley –
It’s inspiring to see people you assume have it all together, not have it all together. It makes them 100% relatable. Good read. It honestly made me feel less crazy.
Zann –
One of my favorite books of all time! Easy & interesting read. Did not want to put it down! Although I didn’t quite understand what light we each carry, especially mine! However, I enjoyed the other content.

This is a beautiful book by Michelle. I have yet to read her memoir. Her writing style is very easy to comprehend and digest, her vulnerability is what captured my heart, her strength and fortitude through the 8 years in the White House, as well as her childhood and early adult days point to her beauty, resilience and faith to help resolve, rectify and take responsibility of what she thinks needs repair. We are all smaller parts in a greater mosaic, and Michelle approaches our humanity in a very honest and direct manner. If we don’t pick our battles, and if we don’t show up and lead as we can, who else will help usher in change? Her honesty about married life, and the unburdening example of Chynna gives me a lot of hope for all of us. May we all be blessed to have friends around our Kitchen Table who lift us up, who hold us securely and who glide with us like the wind beneath our wings.

I loved Michelle Obama’s (FLOTUS) storytelling and insight. Interesting that her education and relationship with Barack was very similar to that ofmy husband and I, that are both Black Professionals, Physicians. So many people need to hear these stories that many of us experience, but not often shared. We live through, our children live through them and we build our armor around us to survive. Through hearing your stories and those of others you spoke with…many will and I have always used those despites as you say to Thrive in this world that we live in! All need to read this book and not just those of us that experience unfortunate racism…
Judy Whetzel –
This book was such a delight to read, full of insights and stories telling of the struggles and achievements of so many people as they navigated their lives. It was enlightening to read about the childhoods of both Michelle and Barack and know about their humble family background, especially Michelle’s dad and how his health impacted their family. Discovering that all of us aren’t so different after all.
