Letters to a Young Athlete
A legendary NBA participant and beloved teammate shares his hard-earned knowledge about discovering your true function and mastering your internal recreation, no matter that recreation could be.

Chris Bosh is on any checklist of the Prime 100 NBA gamers of all time–an eleven-time All Star, two-time Finals winner, Olympic gold medalist, and presently the league’s World Ambassador. All the time an uncommonly philosophical NBA star, he discovered himself needing all of the mindfulness he might muster in 2017, when his profession was reduce brief at its prime by a freak medical situation. Out of the blue, he was thrown out of the work that had given a lot greater than only a livelihood, and needed to suppose deeply about his identification on the earth. This recreation had taught him a lot; what might he make of all of it?

Out of that place of deep reflection has emerged an unusual guide for a retired famous person to write down. Whereas it has one of the best components of a memoir–the portraits of the nice gamers and coaches, from LeBron and Kobe to Pat Riley and Coach Okay, and the accounts of extraordinary aggressive moments–it is known as a knowledge guide, a mix of The Inside Recreation of Tennis, Wynton Marsalis’s To a Younger Jazz Musician, and Rilke’s Letters to a Younger Poet. It’s wealthy with perception about basketball, however even richer with perception about life. It is a guide about discovering a function that’s deep and actual, not shallow and exterior, and about navigating success and failure as the dual mirages they are–pushing previous worry, previous ego, previous fatigue to the pure move of sustained accomplishment in a mesh with teammates who’ve given themselves to the identical factor. Chris Bosh discovered that move, and sustained it on the highest degree. He misses basketball keenly nonetheless, however he has no regrets. Deep, trustworthy, unflinching, this guide is his good friend’s hand as much as these arising behind, no matter their pursuit could be.

Easy to relate to as a basketball junkie. Loved the layout of the book, each letter is a summary of what one needs to focus on towards a successful career and becoming a better human being.CB dispels the myth the athletes are just dummies with physical gifts. Huge respect.

Got this book for my young competitive swimmer. Perhaps a little too young, so I ended up reading it myself and am really impressed with the ease with which Bosh imparts pearls of wisdom. Reads easily, in spite of the fact that there’s much that prompts a deep dive into who you are as an athlete, as a person. Values that need to be celebrated more in this world. I don’t follow basketball, so there are some references that escape me, but Bosh quickly supplements them with examples from other sports or life in general that lack of basketball knowledge is not at all a hindrance to understanding the power of his messages.

I’ve been a fan of Chris Bosh for a long time. This book applies to every aspect of life. Incredibly motivating. There were so many details of his life that no one knew because all people saw was the the success and the fame, not what went on behind the scenes. Definitely puts everything in perspective and gives hope and motivation. Couldn’t put the book down!! I definitely recommend for you and any young adults (athletes or not) in your life!!Enjoy the read!!

Bought this book because i love Chris and hoops so I’d support anything, but find myself who is very much not an athlete nor a parent of athletes really learning so much from these universal lessons. There’s no one that wouldn’t enjoy and love this book.

This was a wonderful book for any young person. Its not only about basketball. It’s advice on friendships, relationships, egos, abilities, types of coaches, and coaching, determination and teamwork. An example- Bosh’s coach told him his best ability was his wingspan. As a result he is remembered as giving the ball in a crucial game to his teammate whose winning basket won them the game.

Knowing little about basketball, I didn’t start the book as either a fan or critic. The chapters written as letters to a young athlete is a great format that combined personal stories of triumph and struggle in the form of lessons. The lessons apply whatever one’s sport or direction in life. There is real wisdom won from years and decades of hard work put in by the author. Well worth reading and, more importantly, sharing these lessons with others.

I read a book review of Letters to a Young Athlete and bought it on impulse. Although I had low expectations, I found Chris’s stories and messages aren’t only for young athletes, they’re for anyone who strives to be their best, whether just starting out, or needing inspiration to make it to the finish line.

I bought this book for my teenage grandson and thought I’d read it first to make sure it is appropriate and am pleased to say that it absolutely is.Bosh employs straight talk about what it means to be a pro athlete but the lessons he imparts can be applied to almost any walk of life – so, life lessons, so to speak. He says if the reason you want to go pro (in any sport) is for fame and fortune – Don’t!The book is motivational and inspirational and I found it to be written in a very teen-friendly manner.Having said that there are a number of adults who would benefit greatly from reading this book as well.Well done to the author!
