From its visual design to it intentionally crafted content, this journal is truly created for Black men looking to process their identity, emotions, and past in an unfiltered manner.I just started digging into this journal and have found it so helpful because the prompts allow me to authentically reflect on who I am, what I think of myself, and how I show up to and for others.Additionally, the activities in this book provide more than just journal prompts which gives me space to connect with the more dynamic nuances of who I am.I’m excited to see the reflection and growth that comes as I have more opportunity to work further in, “A Healing Journal for Black Men”.

With all that our black men and boys have to endure in this world, I felt that this book was very fitting for my fiancé. Every day our men have to wake up and face a world that does not love or appreciate them. Every day they must go out and try not to be scary, seem too powerful, or threatening in the eyes of others. It is a very hard burden to bare and often one that they don’t wish to talk about. This book gives them the ability to put their feelings into words. It allows them a safe space to place that burden and release the load from their shoulders. At the same time, it provides them with affirmations of love and kindness for one’s self. That same love and kindness that we all wish the world would show them. If you have a black man or boy in your life, this journal is meant for them.

This is a beautifully written and organized journal. The prompts are gentle and truly enhance well-being. The author has provided us all with a gift: a guided journey into self-discovery and the ability to hold our emotions lovingly. In addition to the content being so healing, the layout is spacious and gives the reader plenty of room to write.

I think this a must for every young man, particular young black and brown men, unable to express or cope with whatever traumas and dramas they face in their lives. I think it is a great outlet for those who might be suppressing some anger, resentment, etc., in their lives to those that just need a safe space to vent them out. I think the author does an excellent job of asking those questions we don’t think or afraid to ask ourselves. I believe once we do, we’ll actually find ourselves.

Writing has always been the most powerful and cathodic way for me to come to terms with unexpressed emotions, and this journal, “A Healing Journal for Black Men” has been a very valuable tool in my emotional journey. The journalistic prompts help me work through my feelings and ultimately, when I’m finished writing, I feel much better about myself and my circumstances. This allows you to learn yourself at your own pace and without the pressure of others wanting you to deal with things their way and not your own way. It has me questioning and thinking about stuff in my life that I never took the time and sit thown and process and that is a good thing. Black man, If you have ever wanted to be more intentional about holding space for yourself and did not know where to start, this book is for you! Danny has skillfully removed the language and ideological barriers that often discourage Black men from investing in their wellness. As an educator, I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with A Healing Journal for Black Men. 5/5 RatingIt’s amazing what we go through as Black Men. The amount of stress, pressure, anxiety, depression we go through daily and we’re expected to bottle it all in and be leaders and be everyone else’s rock. Many women believe men shouldn’t express their feelings. I’ve found it very difficult to communicate with women other than my mother. When you go thru emotions or depression it’s made me feel less than. Others will take it as a weakness. This book is something every man should embrace. I also feel we should seek therapy and have someone to listen to us. Someone who you don’t know who won’t place judgement. Something I’m seeking out as we speak. But in the meanwhile this book and journal is a great starting point to healing yourself.

This book is and should be a staple for not onlyYoung black men but black men of all ages.It guides into a reflection of one’s own feelings towards family, love, self worth, self doubts and so much more.It also has instructed activities, and motivational quotes on some pages.I believe after reading this the men in your life will better understand their selves, their emotions better and their relationship with their loved ones.I highly recommend. For all our men, but especially young ones, it’s critical to get them intune with their emotions and know who they are now more than ever.Also. The cover is made of an almost water proof material, (I know this because i touched it by accident with hair serum still on my fingers) and it was easy to wipe that of

This healing guide is one that opens up doors in the mind and heart in a special way. A lot of the answers to these questions we already know, but this journal has been helpful for documented how I’m feeling and processing myself on multiple levels. There is a section that asks about my passions, my dreams and then my authentic self: this portion causes me to realize that I have dreams and goals, but I also have the person I am in the present WHICH IS the person who I have been on a consistent basis. Little things like that help move energy through my body to push forward in my development process (I hope). We are given a lot of tools by our Creator to grow and develop, but I’m so thankful for this journal for healing and just contemplation in new ways for this year and for years to come.

I gave this to my husband to use. While I’ve had several prompt journals before, this is his first. I really like the content in this one. The prompts are thought, and feeling, provoking. My husband likes it, as well- so that’s great! The overall quality is also great. Had I purchased this, I would still feel it’s well worth it!

This is a wonderful book that would be a true gift to any black man who may be averse to therapy to start with but in working through this book can see how thorough a therapist can be in helping them heal from past traumas and other issues that need compassion, perhaps reframing and most importantly understanding. This book starts the conversation that is so often kept quiet in the black community and does so with a sure voice and steady hand. I can’t recommend it enough.

It’s clearly evident from the title that this self-help book is specifically geared toward black men. What’s remarkable, is that there are so few books which help black men with their unique issues and perspectives. With all the brouhaha over the last several years of protests and demonstrations, you (thanks to the media) might get the mistaken impression that most black men are assertive, confident and free of any internal conflicts. That would be a lie. For weeks, this book sat on my ottoman: when I first opened the book, and read one of the exercises, I knew then and there that I was not ready to take the ‘journey’ that this book requires. It’s not easy to talk about subjects like racism, childhood trauma and personal experiences that shape us black men; what’s worse, as men in generally are not given PERMISSION TO PROCESS AND EXPRESS THEIR EMOTIONS, what we are left with is a lot of repression, sadness, and yes, even anger. And so, as in most recovery programs, I will suggest you, the reader take this journey one step at a time: read a chapter, approach the journalizing exercises with honesty and courage, and give yourself permission to process your feelings fully, before committing yourself to the next chapter/exercise. There’s a famous saying that goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Are you ready? Aren’t you worth it? I think you are.

As a black man it can be really hard to acknowledge inner pain when you’ve been “brought up” to be resilient in a world full of adversity, oppression, discrimination, and racism, which does not afford us the reflective ability to pause for self-care, nor to address the pain in what feels like an exhausting video game of continuous mental and physical survival. We just GO, GO, GO with minimal outlets to dig deep, or to deal with layers (and yearssss) of familial, social, professional, and internalized trauma. Sadly, many of us have just become champions in emotional SUPPRESSION without release.THIS healing journal for black men is something TRULY special!!! It offers that opportunity to RELEASE in a casual, easy, chill, and fun way. It’s not intimidating. It’s not yelling at you! There are no values being forced upon you … It’s just a great way to have those NEEDED aha moments with yourself that are like “Wow! I never thought of it that way!”. It allows you to enjoy a nice process of healing.Perhaps you may laugh, or even cry, but I highly recommend this journal for black men young or old! … WE ALL NEED THIS YA’LL! … I’m going to get another one for my oldest Godson who just turned 21. So happy I found this.

The book is actually a gift to my brother, but I reviewed it—between the quizzes & prompts to write out your ‘Self-Care’ Calendar, I think this journal is a great asset to ground yourself & take some time to think about life. He’s in his 50s and I’m sure he’s going to take advantage of these really great questions, that everyday life he may not have had the time to sit back and ask himself.I’m all about growth & tools like these are KEY to elevating spiritually, emotionally & mentally.

Not to go too deep here, but I definitely have a lot of praise for this journal and it’s prompts. There is a lot of value in therapy if you can afford it- but if you can’t this book helps. It helps a lot. Just keep an open mind. The Black experience is full of pain and this will help you unravel and unpack some of the more nuances parts of it.
