The Importance of Recognizing Intersectionality | Sawyer Dowd | TEDxLSSU

I will talk about intersectionality, how it affects suicide rates, and what solutions we can provide to lower said rates. Factors such as ethnicity, sexuality and gender, and mental illness all contribute to a person’s identity, and are very important in making us who we are, and we need to support those who have faced challenges based on these factors in any way that we can. Sawyer Dowd is a sophomore at LSSU, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Pre-Law; Sawyer is currently the vice-president of LSSU SAGE (sex and gender equality) club, Cultural Diversity Officer for the LSSU Student Government, and a founding member of the Shingabowassin Anishinaabe Student Organization (SASO). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
