Can’t remember the last time I read a book in 2.5 days. Couldn’t put it down. And it was on Kindle and not Audible, which usually would help me cheat. I actually read the words.Riveting! As a British-Nigerian-American, with roots from Nigeria, I could so relate to the culture.I understand what having a child does to a marriage, even without looming grief from prior loss. But it was so real and it drew me in so deeply that I was angry at the midpoint of the book. Why was she so focused on the negatives? My marriage was rocky in those early baby years. But trauma often robs us of perspective. And that’s what I saw looking at the big picture. But I was so relieved that she finally got it. Illness puts life in perspective. Whether it’s yours or someone else’s close to you.Gratitude it is.After a decade of chronic illness, I live life urgently too. But my urgency is in being, not doing. It’s in slowing down to savor each moment. Each experience. In that way, I’m also living the width of my life now and not just the length of it, because for a while, I just knew that length wasn’t going to be for me.Highly recommended read.

There are so many things to say about Bozoma’s riveting first publication, ‘The Urgent Life’.Prepare yourself to travel with her as she chronicles all her experiences – the ups, the downs and the in-between.I appreciated her vulnerability and how she accepted her mistakes reminding us all that we are not perfect. The book is not only captivating but also rousing, while being cathartic. While you will be glued to this book, take the time to learn from her experiences and truly embrace daily the need to live each day urgently. The only thing missing for me is her visiting my island home as part of her book tour.

I discovered your book during an interview on CBS. The title intrigued me as I had just settled into my grief. All the guests were gone home and it was just me and my Thoughts. While reading I’ve highlighted several passages to refer to when needed. Thank you for sharing your story, Bozoma Saint John

I came across the author during 2020 when Kourtney Kardashian allowed Bozoma Saint John control her IG during the George Floyd Protests and Riots. This was an amazing book, and I felt like I was in the room with her at times. I laughed, I gasped, and I shed tears! Like a previous review stated, the book goes back and forth from the past to the journey of her marriage. I personally don’t think the sequence is confusing, but I can see it being a turnoff for some readers. I really enjoyed how raw she was with her experiences and what she felt. It’s amazing to know what she persevered through. So much more I could say, but I don’t want to do an analysis!

This story touched me in so many ways. Bozoma is an inspiration and a trailblazer, marching to the beat of her own drum. The stories are real and relatable, jumping between times and places but bringing it all together beautifully. The lesson is to live life to the fullest, with all the good and bad, and taking none of it for granted.

As an ambitious black woman, married to a white man, I felt very seen reading this book. There are some situations and feelings I have had, that I have never been able to put in words or explain. I also don’t think we have enough books by ambitious black women that cover themes outside of how they succeeded at work. I am grateful for this book’s existence and making me (and I’m sure so many others) feel seen.Mrs. Saint John’s straight forward way of writing made it easy to be engrossed in her story and feel the emotions conveyed in the book. I highly recommend this book, especially to ambitious women everywhere!

This book was captivating from the first page! You would expect that a memoir from the powerhouse executive that is Bozoma Saint John would be heavily focused on her rise to the top but this was about real and relatable experiences including IMMENSE loss and grief. Her story is inspiring because this is a book about resilience. Moving on in faith and urgency despite the inevitable grief that comes with a journey. This book is a must-read for anyone that has breath! It’s compelling, well-written and life-changing!

I really enjoyed the beginning, there was a cliff hanger and it was interesting from the start, never read a memoir before but the pace felt like a fiction book, because it was exciting. This is book taught me a lot, especially towards the end. This book will keep me going in the future.

I am so grateful that Bozoma shared her life story in such a raw, captivating and authentic way! I read this in one day – I simply could NOT put it down (and I run a business, have a baby and a toddler…). This book is simply MAGNIFICENT and Bozoma is a true inspiration. If you have been looking to light up a flame in you, look no further, read this book and live life URGENTLY!

I listened to the audible version of the book and it was so powerful to hear Bozoma Saint John read it. The Urgent Life is one of the best memoirs I’ve read and truly an inspiring story. I’ve never listened to a book and then bought the print version, but that is what I am doing with this one. There were so many great life lessons that I need to see them.

I’ve seen almost all of her YouTube videos and listened to most of the podcasts she’s been on, so I thought there might not be much left for me to know. However, this is a deep and honest biography that is riveting. I loved it! I also loved how her different stories were woven throughout the chapters. Almost like a movie. Now I want Bozoma to write a self-help book with all the wisdom she has from all the experiences she’s been through!

I’m in awe by the task of writing about Bozoma Saint John. When I heard/saw her name written in one of the titles of “Just B” podcast, I thought she had invented her name. Then I learned her story. After revisiting her story by listening to two additional podcasts that had her as the guest speaker, I said “Okay! I’ll read her book.” Bozoma’s written her life has thus far included honesty, openness to spirituality, resilience, and determination. She has gained wisdom from her life experience. Bozoma has learned the following from loss: “From…, I’ve learned to defy boundaries… From…, I’ve learned that love is infinite… And from Peter, I learned to live life with urgency: to take the trip; to call a friend; to cut off the toxic person not next week, not next year, but as soon as the thought crosses my heart. I don’t delay. I don’t count on an unpromised future. It is gnawing, a knowing, that is sobering but also freeing.” (2023, p. 261-262). This is where the title of Bozoma’s book came from—it’s what Bozoma learned from Peter. “I’d always been impulsive, moved to action by my restlessness. But urgency is not reckless. It is intentional. It is listening to my gut, listening to God, then being fully present as I embrace each step of my journey.” (2023, p. 262). Urgency. Is. Not. Reckless. It. Is. Intentional. I hope you learn to live intentional so you can also be fully present as you embrace each step of your journey.

A beautiful memoir that will empower you to own your story, authenticity, and will raise your value of responsibility to create connection and impact. Boz embodies transformational leadership with her emphasis on bold, brave and daring messages that create change. Highly recommended!

This book is simply amazing. In this memoir, Bozoma gives us insight into her journey and the life changing losses she overcame to get to where she is. The first word that came to mind after finishing this book was WOW, the second one one DESERVINg. I was captivated from the first page and sometimes surprised of how transparent Boz was in the book.Loss is an important part of life but rising higher after each loss is a choice that one must make that requires courage and faith. Buy this book if you want to be inspired to accomplish anything.

I have followed Bozoma’s career and count her as a personal inspiration of mine. I knew little of her personal story and preordered this one right away.Bozoma tells her story with such raw emotion. I really enjoyed this book for an inside look at this powerhouse of a woman and executive, and a chance to hear her story. This story was uplifting, emotional, heartbreaking, and inspirational all at one. I’d love to write more about it, but my words are failing me and don’t seem to do justice to this book. In short, buy it! A story you won’t soon forget.

I lost my mother this past January, reading this book gave me strength that if she could pull through after experiencing many significant losses….there is hope for me to move on and to be better…

I love that the author was straight forward about her role in the painful experiences in her relationship. She did not try to cover-up her true feeling even if they would not be considered to be kind or loving in the eyes of others. The truthfulness of the author prompted me to face my own true feeling about myself. It’s a must read.
Tamara Criss –
This riveting memoir grips you from start to finish. You will feel as though you are walking alongside Bozoma as she traverses and expertly narrates many of her life’s most transformative seasons—seasons of heartwarming joy, unquestionable miracles, and debilitating sorrows. And you will find that the wisdom & vulnerability Bozoma shares throughout her journey leaves an imprint on your being that persists long after you have turned the final page of this memoir.
Veonne –
This book was one of the most transparent and inspirational books I’d read. The fact that Bozoma allowed us to not only have a ringside seat at her victories but also her scars, fears and challenges. I thought I knew a lot about her however, this book took me to a whole other level. The suspense, emotions, integrity etc. were such cliff hangers, I could hardly pause for a much needed break. Boz’s life is nothing short of God’s miraculous tapestry and I am honored that she allowed me to witness a segment of it through this beautifully written biography. Thank you Boz!Vanessa Colclough

I’ve been following Bozoma on socials and LinkedIn for a bit, and was familiar with some of the better known aspects of her life but getting a deeper dive into all that has lead her to be the leader that she is is amazing. I also really enjoy the non linear writing style switching between stories from childhood then back to adulthood like flashbacks and flash forwards. Granted, I’m only on chapter 4, but I’ve already learned so much about her thru these few chapters and cannot wait to read the rest.
