Ree has commented a lot about being an “accidental” country girl, so I decided to find out why she says that. This was a very entertaining, actually hard to put down, book! I loved her descriptions of Marlboro Man, Brother Tim, the ranch, her driving, etc. All of it! I have it on my Kindle, so I will be able to read it whenever, wherever I want – and I will read this book again for sure.I think that the best part of the book is knowing that it’s a true story, and to see her interactions with her husband after all of this time (I watch her show too) and see that they still care so deeply for each other is just so wonderful. Sticking through the hard times is never easy, and knowing that a couple can do that and still be in love and have fun together is just wonderful.Yes, a mushy review, but I was feeling mushy is why I purchased the book, it surely didn’t disappoint! 🙂

I’ve read that some people don’t like this book because they’ve read her blog and most of it is on there. I saw her book on a table when it was released (at my grocery store), and had no idea who she was – I wasn’t that intrigued (not a fan of the cover). Then I happened across her show on Food Network. I just so fell in love with her personality, attitude, old school cooking and love for her family and way of life:). I couldn’t get her book fast enough – I do agree that it could have gone farther. Ree, I’d love to hear how you came to terms with all of it and hear how Marlboro Man coped with his 2nd daughter and then your sons. I can’t wait to see her every week and now read her blog all the time. I’m a woman who is from a big city background and will be a farmer soon in Georgia. I know that’s WAY different from being a rancher wife but I’m 46 and facing will face many challenges. She gives me that boost that I can actually do it…..THANKS Ree!!!

Loved this book! She writes like she talks! I have to laugh when I watch her series now after reading about some of her fears during her courtship (getting up early was not her thing and she worried about having to garden and grow her own food)! Being another “accidental country girl”, I can relate! She wrote very candidly not only about her relationship with the Marlboro Man but also the rest of the family dynamic going on at the time. I cried and laughed through the whole book and wish she would right a sequel that carries on where this one left off. She is definitely one incredible woman and her story would inspire many a young woman trying to figure out her life!

Love Ree’s cooking show, and have browsed her blogs, but was not prepared for the love story that came from this book. I expected it to be more of a hilarious, witty, type of rendition of how she came to be an accidental country girl. While she injects her humor into the story, she also projects emotional memories of growing up, family situations and heartfelt feelings on things that happened to her as she was growing into their relationship and marriage. I could so relate to some of her thoughts as she drove back home at nights, wondering what she had gotten herself into, the inner smiles of that phone ringing minutes after the date ended, wondering how she would fit into Marathon Man’s family, etc.I read the entire book in one sitting, as I just could not close the book, and that’s not something I usually do with most books. Thanks Ree, for a wonderful book!

I wasn’t at all sure about this book when I bought it, but it turned out to be a fun, honest read. Full of life experiences that really speak to all of us. You don’t have to live on a ranch to know how it feels to be a pioneer woman!

I read this book in record time because I just couldn’t put it down. I’d never read any of her blogs prior to reading the book, so it was all a new story for me. What a great love story that made me laugh out loud, and then re-read the hilarity of it all to my husband who also found the situations she found herself in funny.I’m blown away by some of the negative opinions. I just see this as someone telling her story, and enhancing it with situations and thoughts that cross many of our minds as women. I too hope that there is a sequel, surely she has more to share with us. After realizing we could totally be friends with Ree, I shared the book with two of my friends who also enjoyed it as much as I did.

I liked her book and I want MORE!! Ree, you need to write another book after this.. it’s beautiful, insightful. I feel this is the book every newly wed and new mother needs. Heck.. even old married ladies like me.I have already planned on my girls when the move out 😩 getting Ree’s cookbooks and this will be added to the list.Still, I hope she writes another. I want to know more about Mike, and her mother, and how everything works out with Betsy.. who I LOVE! Her story about Post Partum was so real, it took me back.Thank you Ree for sharing… ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I really enjoyed reading this book as it transports you into Ree’s world through her eyes. It brings emotion – plenty of details with the reality of life and real experiences that you definitely can relate to and she is able to bring you into the story like you are right there (she has the gift with her writing to connect you to the story unfolding in the book). After reading the preview that’s provided, you will want to buy it!

I loved this true story about Ree falling in love with a cowboy, “Marlboro Man”, which changed her life. She has a great talent as a writer, because she is so humorous, and her descriptions put you right there in the moment. There is supposed to be a movie in the works based on this book. I certainly hope so. I couldn’t put the book down, it was a great read. And such a cheap price. I do not understand the negative reviews on here, this is now one of my all time favorite books.I also hope she would write a second book to tell us the rest of the story. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to the movie, & love her cooking show! Fabulous recipes! And I love seeing her family , and the ranch.

I really liked this book. I couldn’t put it down after I started reading it. She is so funny telling the stuff that has happened to her in real life. Many times I litterally laughed out loud while reading it. Those that are already a pioneer woman fan this is a must read. If you just need a good laugh, this is a must read too. I could really relate to her while reading the book.

I had read the first review, said this book wasn’t good etcetera. Ok, I really enjoyed this book. I judge a book by 3 things. Did it make me laugh. Yes. Did it make me cry. Yes. Did it keep me interested enough to get past the first 5 pages. Yes.The other review I read mentioned name dropping. Ok. So? When particular items are named, it makes it easier to visualize what is being talked about. So my take? If you love watching Pioneer Woman you’ll love the book! If you don’t love the show maybe it’ll show you that hey, she lives life just like the rest of us.

I love how Ree shares what was going on in her mind when she fell in love with “Marlboro Man”. Her thoughts on how an independent woman’s heart and ideas of love were won over by a strong, sensitive and hardworking cowboy. This book is a fast-paced and easy read especially for busy people who want a feel good romance.

First of all I absolutely love Ree! But I fell more in love while reading her love story❤️. I like that she is so real about how her life went and that she didn’t sugar coat anything. There were downs, but so many more ups! I love how down to Earth she is more so a wonderful wife and mother. I will definitely buy any more books she writes about her life. Because I have most of her cookbooks already, which I must recommend any and/or all of them!!

My only “problem” with Ree’s book is that I now dream of Marlboro Man nightly. I hear his voice, smile thinking of his chuckle, imagine his strong arms sweeping me off my feet . . . but I digress (don’t let me get to “that kiss!”). Not being a big reader, I mostly read books of current political interest or books on topics surrounding Christian thought. However, I had become so addicted to just reading Ree’s recipes and recipe blogs that I did not let myself read any of her blogs about her romance with Marlboro Man until the book came out. I only own a few books that are light reading — children’s books to read aloud to my grandkids, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Jan Karon’s delightful Mitford series (which I believe caused me to dream about falling in love with a gentle-spirited Episcopalian priest). I was CHARMED by this book! Could hardly wait to get home each evening to fall into its pages and laugh out loud at Ree’s on-going struggle to figure out how to wear her black high heeled boots into the world of this handsome, quiet rancher. For those who still love the feel of a book in their hands and the look of a book on their shelf, this one is a winner to own! The jacket is just so fun to look at and the book has a beautiful binding. I love that she was able to tell their story with passion and yet keep it appropriate for younger readers. It is a sweet, funny, touching, pure, breathless love story that reminded me of how love stories “used to be.”

I love the simplicity of Ree’s writing. Her love story will definitely remind you of why you fell in love and, as a fellow Oklahoma girl, will remind you of why you love country life. There’s hope, there’s laughs, there’s heartstrings. I’ve read this story several times and it always reminds me of the important things in my life as well as the importance of hard work and perseverance.

I never wanted to put this book down. I am planning to pass it on to every female friend and family member I have. I treasure this book for the love story and the romance, but I couldn’t put it down because the story is so real. Ree Drummond is able to make fun of herself in a fun-loving way that often made me smile and giggle, but she is also, now, a heroine to me. There are many experiences that she openly shares which do not go perfect or smoothly in any way, but together with Marlboro Man and her family, they show how love and being there for each other can get you through to the next sunrise. Ree’s story is a testimony that life is not perfect, but it is beautiful.

Wonderfully fun, sweet and ‘clean’ contemporary/cowboy/romantic comedy.I love romance stories.Especially, when they are clean but have strong physical attraction between the leads.Humor and fun is a HUGE plus for me,and this book had it all.Ree is totally endearing and her Marlboro Man is definitely ‘swoon-worthy’!What a sweet, fun[LOL,FUN]exciting[as in sparks flying passion],courtship they had.I totally loved reading their story, and this book is going on my list of favorites.I thought the book was excellently written, and such a fun read that when I wasn’t lol,to myself I had a huge grin.Since it reminds me so very much of my own courtship with my late hubby of 30 years, her writing and her story felt very real/genuine to me,and I am another that seems to have unfortunate/embarassing incidents happen,so I could sooo relate!Thank you so much Mrs.Drummond for sharing your wonderful story, and for sharing the passion of you and your Marlboro Man,yet managing to keep it a nice clean read. You proved that it can be done.May you and your hubby always love kissing each other,as my hubby and I did.Hopefully, if you ever find yourself with enough free time, you will start writing some cowboy,romantic-comedy fiction. There just isn’t enough cowboy romance novels out there, that are clean reads without being full of religious proselytizing/god-talk!Highly recommended!I read my library’s copy, then purchased my own copy!

Ree keeps you laughing and cringing along with her as she (rather dramatically) shares the story of how her and Marlboro Man met and some of their crazy and heartwarming adventures. Her book takes me right back to a lazy night in the Midwest, just chatting on the swing while watching the sunset fade. If you’re a fan of Pioneer Woman, and have read her blog, you’ll love this book.

I enjoyed reading Ree’s story about how her life took an unexpected turn when she met and fell in love with her Marlboro Man. I love stories where people fall in love with the person they least expect. This is a charming and funny tale of a young woman at a crossroads wanting her life to go one way until she meets an unlikely cowboy who takes her life in a completely different (and rural) direction. Ree is honest about her hesitation about living the country life. My favorite parts were reading about her breakdowns into histrionics- something she insists never happened before. Either she doesn’t want to admit that she is prone to fits every once in a while (I’d love to hear from her family on this) or her hormones really did get the best of her! Either way, I really enjoyed this book. I could feel the love and passion this couple had and it warmed my heart. They weren’t without some challenges so it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I was glad it wasn’t all giggles and butterflies. There is some grit to the story too. My only complaint was that the story ended abruptly. I wanted more. I guess I can console myself by fixing one of the delicious recipes at the back of the book. I read the Kindle version of the book so that was a nice surprise. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy read on a snow day or rainy day indoors.

I’m new to the world of blogs, a late bloomer you could say, and I only discovered Ree’s blog by accident last fall. And then I found out she now as a Food Network show. So I’m hooked and I’ve been trying to read her earlier posts as time will allow. Her writing style is hysterical and so down to earth. Yesterday I decided bite the bullet and by her book for my Kindle. I couldn’t put the darn thing down. What makes the story so special is that although it reads like its a fictional sitcom, you know its REAL – you know this actually happened to Ree. I’m about the same age and still single, and although its been 15+ years since she met Ladd, its refreshing to read how a real romance should play out. And what’s even better – she is not graphic, not in the vulgar sense, so this is a great read for teens to grandmas. I highly recommend this for teen girls especially – there aren’t many good relationship examples out there and its good for them to learn they do NOT need to get into bed on the first date and that good things are worth waiting for. Thanks, Ree, for sharing you story!

This is a beautiful love story, passions as deep as in Gone With The Wind. Instant attraction between two very different people with very different backgrounds who really do become “one.” The love just keeps building — there are some glitches, but these do not involve their passion for each other. If you watch Pioneer Woman on TV it adds to the enjoyment as you can “see” them and “hear” Ree and Marlboro Man (Ladd) speak the words you are reading. There are some sweet, just really precious encounters between them. Ree writes it just like she talks – it’s like she is confiding to her best friend, you the reader, but she isn’t talking about cooking, mostly about Marlboro Man and how they make each other feel. It is “real” and it grabs your heart.I read a borrowed book the first time, hated to finish it as I missed them both when I was through, so I had to order my own, and got the soft cover book and read it . . . twice. Then I decided I’d give that book to my granddaughter and I bought the hard cover book which I am now almost through with for my 4th reading. I skip through a few pages now, and I still read some passages over a couple times. He does the SWEETEST things! Marlboro Man?? Yep!Every reader will wish to live a love affair and marriage like Ree and Ladd are living. Every woman wants a man like Marlboro Man. Lucky Ree – – and Lucky Ladd. They deserve each other.Shirley in Phoenix

I have watched The Pioneer Woman for a few years now and I love that she is one of the most down to earth cooks. When I have tried her meals they are simply wonderful. So reading her book was the next step for me, I just wanted to learn more. This book is a quick and easy read. It had romance and humor all throughout as Ree tells her love story with Lad. So cute and it makes watching The Pioneer Woman an even better experience. My only wish was that the book wouldn’t end. I would love to read about how she raised 4 kids on a ranch and their experiences with homeschooling.

Sometimes you want a feel good down home authentic story and that’s what Ree Drummond gives you. She describes in delicious detail falling in love with a perfect stranger and what it’s like to truly change your trajectory for love. Actually read her next book Frontier Follies first, but I hope that she writes another book or two covering the time between when this book ends and Frontier Follies begins.

I bought this book when it first came out, and read it in it’s entirety as soon as I got it. I just finished reading it for the second time. I liked it better this time. The first reading….I thought it was a really romantic account of her meeting and marrying her husband. It still is that, but this time I noticed her humor more and it had me laughing out loud. Ree Drummond is a very successful author and ‘brand’, but she is also a real person, a wife, mom, rancher’s wife, and all around busy person. She approaches life with enthusiasm and humor and I can’t think of a better way to get through all the situations life can throw at you. Definitely recommend this for a fun and interesting read. For those of us who don’t live on a ranch and most likely never will, it’s also a glimpse of a very American and hardworking lifestyle.

Yeah, I’m ready to find a cowboy! “Cowboy, take me away…” Ree is awesome! Totally cracked me up with her awkward moments that are so freakin relateable, its sad. But in a good way, lol! Her love story is heat put into words. The world needs more men like Marlboro Man! “Where have all the cowboys gone??” My generation of men need to be schooled up by this cowboy! Yes, please! Terrific book! Work became an annoyance while engrossed in this amazingly blessed woman’s life! So great!

A very good book to give as a gift to your wife :)As I was finishing the book I was thinking of finding the recipes that Drummond makes in the story to try to make them, when to my surprise she included them at the end of the book! I was so happy for this! Great story, full of romance and the failures that led to it and the recipes! definitely a 5 stars book.

I read this book during what should’ve been a romantic trip to Cabo San Lucas. My boyfriend laughs that in almost every photo I have this book in my hands. I couldn’t put it down. “Just one more chapter” I would say, but alas, I kept reading. My laughter became infectious on the plane to Mexico as people around me kept asking me what was so funny. I could barely get a word out through my laughter as I retold the story that I had just read. By the end of our trip my boyfriend hated “Marlboro Man” because he felt like he could never measure up to such a stud. This is a fun read, and even if one finds this love story unbelievable, keep in mind that it is from the writer’s point of view and when we feel true love we paint the absolute best picture that makes everyone envious. Bravo Ree Drummond!!! I used to be green with envy, but I too found my “Marlboro Man”. Thanks for helping me raise the bar.

If you know, or have heard of The Pioneer Woman, you’ll love this book. You’ll just love this book anyway!! It’s a good, easy read, and thoroughly enjoyable. The characters (real life peop!e), are funny, warm, aggravating, appealing, surprising, and just plain entertaining.Plus, the love story between Ree and Ladd (Marlboro Man, her dream man come to life), is truly special and endearing. They have a great yin-yang relationship, with Ladd being calm and laid-back, and Ree being feisty and up-on-her-toes (she did train as a ballerina).Their life on an Oklahoma cattle ranch is full of adventures and escapades, both good and troubling. But, their love for each other and their rugged homestead keep them bonded and working toward a very positive future.Highly recommended.

I am a full time nursing student and didn’t have time to read the book until this week during spring break. Wow is all I can say. I want more. I first heard about The Pioneer Woman at a friend’s home. Her daughter had given her a copy of one of Ree’s cookbooks, and I had a delightful time reading through it. Ree’s stories about meeting Marlboro Man, and other snippets of her family life made me wonder if she had ever thought about writing novels. So, I went online and discovered that she had written “Black Heels to Tractor Wheels: A Love Story”, and ordered it, hoping that I wouldn’t be disappointed. Well, I couldn’t put it down! What a fun, romantic story! She really found a jewel in that husband of hers. This book is light, enjoyable, with nothing off-color. I’ll be reading it again one of these days.

I have followed the Pioneer Woman for several years now, and her writing has developed well over time. I picked up her website after she had already started posting her story, “Black Heels to Tractor Wheels” and when I read my first episode of the series, I had to go back and find the other entries because it was an intriguing story. The story is a real-life fairy tale and reading it as a serial hearkens back to the days of radio, getting bits and pieces of the whole story each week. In her book, taken from that serialized account of her falling in love with the man of her dreams, the story is complete and is a delightful read. Even though I knew what was coming next, I could still feel the excitement of meeting the handsome stranger and empathize with her not wanting to be a dork around him. And the tragedy of her parents’ marriage crumbling even as her own was about to begin was well written to understand her fears and heartache. Marlboro Man, while seeming to be the perfect man, is still shown to have his human side, too. But overall, you’ll come away from the book feeling like you would want Ree as a friend. If you enjoy reading this book, you’ll love to read “Confessions of a Pioneer Woman” at her award-winning website thepioneerwoman.com, where she posts daily on life at the ranch, in full color, with her own photographs. Educational and entertaining as always.

I found this book to be uncomplicated, delightful and charming. Ree Drummond has such a terrific sense of humor, and writes about the good, the bad, and the ugly in her saga about her life, her romance with her future husband, about her wedding and honeymoon, and about being pregnant and the subsequent birth of her first daughter. The authors writing style is uncomplicated, down to earth, with no airs and graces, and she always manages to find the humorous side of the story she is telling. I could have gone on reading about her life, and was sorry when the book ended. Recommended for a fun light read.

If you love Ree Drummond and her family, have watched any of her cooking shows — whether you’re a diehard fan or casually observing, like me — this book will make you fall in love with her all over again. I love Ree’s wit and humor throughout the telling of the story. It gave me an understanding of where Ree came from, what she and her husband are about and how they set the foundation for a beautiful marriage and beautiful life together. It helps me have a greater appreciation for where they are today. They’re not perfect people, and that’s what makes them so relatable. It makes my heart smile to see what the combined powers of love, family, commitment, hard work, faith and joy can produce as the years unfold. May God continue to richly bless you, Drummond family.

Loved it! Absolutely loved it! Read it in 3 days (and that was only because one of those days was Sunday – busy day! – and, well, you gotta sleep!) I didn’t want it to end! I’d not read the blogs that led to the book, so it was all ‘news’ to me. I gave it to my 93 year old aunt to read (she doesn’t watch Ree’s cooking show – yet!) and she read it in 3 days, too! She really enjoyed it as well. She asked me if she’s written any other books (I wish she would!); she didn’t know it was the story of how Ree and Ladd met! Then she wanted to see pictures of what they looked like. It was just a fantastic book. Her wit and humor are refreshing. Ree: If you read this, please find time to write a(nother) book!

First off: I read MANY romance novels. Most of them have a good degree of heat. This true story is written with one’s children in mind and the fact that they may one day read what Mom has written. I would have written it the same way and some things only need to be implied and I’m good with my imagination anyway. That said: I loved this story. It’s so sweetly wonderful. It’s romance of the highest degree. It’s Clark Gable and Carole Lombard caliber. The stories are at times sadly poignant and other times quite hilarious. If something could go wrong for Ree then it did! She and her cowboy reminded me of Lucy and Ricky on more than one occasion. Lucy getting into a tight situation and Ricky standing back and silently watching. Okay; Ricky Ricardo would get pretty excited and the Marlboro Man is calm and collected. This book skips around and months may not be covered but the overall feeling is that time passes and life moves ahead. It’s not disjointed at all; but flowing.Ree Drummond is very honest about herself. She knows her weaknessess and sets out to better herself on a continual basis. Rather like the rest of us in the human race! The romance parts: great. The family parts: sweet and sometimes not so. The ranch life: tough but in a way that makes me cheer that there are ranchers out there who do what they do so we can eat. They love their land and know it’s value is beyond money. Thank god for them.I recommend this book highly. It’s an easy read and left me with a smile in knowing there are families out there like the Drummonds.

A true love story! I love it so much I read it every month. Reading is something I love to do and this book has captured me. This book has everything; sadness, laughter, cheerful, romance, and much more. I’m so glad it’s a true story because it came around right after my husband died and I was so sad and needed a pick me up. I read this book from cover to cover all in one day, it had me anxious to get from one page too the next, I just couldn’t put it down. You won’t either, it’s that good.

What a great read!!! I feel redundant on my review, because I will practically write what a lot of other’s have written; It is some of a repeat from Ree’s blog>>but we were forewarned that she had written about her life in the blogging portion of her site. But there is nothing like reading a love story on a written page to transport you to another realm; That is what reading a good book will do for ya!:) And yes, reading the book had me feeling like I was a part of her life>>or maybe I just wanted to be her in her life :)). (To hubby in case you read this>> Honey I love you even though we do not live on a ranch and you would look silly in chaps AND on a horse).Ree, I surly hope that the feeling that you got whenever you heard or saw Marlboro Man is still there and growing.

I actually can’t believe some of the negative reviews. This book was a refreshing, funny, and delightful look into the life of a celebrity cook who didn’t go to culinary school, yet has her own show on the Food Network. She has made her fame by just being who she is, and revealing it on a common blog. What a great inspiration to anyone who has dreams of becoming a cook, a writer, or anything for that matter. I felt by the end of the book that I knew Ree, and actually wished I did. I want to join her on her front porch for a cup of tea or a glass of white wine and talk about life. My only disappointment was that the book ended when it did, I wanted more. Beautiful story. Thanks Ree!

I bought and finished this book in hours! I literally (and yes, I mean that) could not put my Kindle down. As a fan of Ree, it was heartwarming to learn about the backstory to her marriage with Marlboro Man. As someone getting married in four months, this book was both encouraging and inspirational for my future as a bride and wife. I loved seeing how completely human she is, unlike many stars on television these days. As a love story, I feel as if I went on the crazy, whirlwind journey alongside the pair. It also allowed me to look at my hardworking husband-to-be with new eyes.

I’ve been thinking about buying this book, but from the cover it looked like it would not have much substance. Well, I thought I would look inside and read a couple of pages, boy was I surprised. I was hooked and had to buy it. In fact, it was so good I gave a copy to my daughter and granddaughter, they both couldn’t put it down. I bought the paper back not knowing if I would like it.The way Ree describes events will make you laugh. Their are some sad moments, but don’t we all have them. Some of her passion for Marlboro Man does repeats itself a little to often, I just passed over it.

I am addicted to the Pioneer Woman’s food network show and her blog! I have since added one of her cookbooks to my collection. I thoroughly enjoyed her book. It is full of charm, romance, humor. I highly recommend this book. It outlines the wonderful story of how she met her husband, but also is honest about the realities of marriage to a cattle rancher living in the country. Yes, there is a “happily ever after” to their romance, but we all know life isn’t that simple. A new husband & in-laws, children, a new life on the farm, all things you love so much your heart aches; but even so the road is filled with hills & valleys, laughter & tears. This is a great book that made me like her even more than I did from watching her show. The way she tells her story is as if you are talking with a good friend, albeit a good friend I have never met. Good friends are precious & there is always room in my life for a few more.

I read this book when it first came out, and thought it was a good, clean and interesting love story! This was before I realized that Ree was a celebrity. I came upon it again, and am enjoying reading it for a second time. However, It seems to have been edited as the story is a little different in the newer version. I don’t get the reviewers (either for this book, or for her 2nd book “Frontier Follies”) who call her “self absorbed,” shallow”, etc. She seems pretty honest and down to earth in both books. If caring about her looks, clothes, etc. seems shallow and self absorbed, that is a pretty harsh critique in a society like ours. Sounds more like “sour grapes” to me. It’s great to read about someone who adjusted to a completely different life, made a success out of it, and loves her husband and family. How easy could have it been to go from being a city girl, and culture lover to living on a ranch in an isolated location? It takes a strong women to thrive after making such a change.

I have been a fan of Ree Drummond for a while now having purchaced her cookbooks. This is a truly fantastic book telling how Ree met her Marlboro man. You can feel the love they have for each other. It is as if you were in the back seat with her as she went through the adventures of meeting her man and the love that grew between them. It was amazing how close she brought you into her life as each phase of her life was retold . It is easy to see how her bubbly personality came to being and how much she loves her Marlboro man and her children.

Have to say that this book isn’t my typical read, which is historical romance, but this book is right up there with one of the best reads I’ve had in a long time. Ree’s descriptions, insecurities and humor kept me up reading half the night. To me, this a truly great love story and I only with that I could find my very own Marlboro Man. It may have sounded like a fairy tale to some, but to me, this is the stuff that all girls dream about…finding the perfect mate. Thank you, Ree (and Marlboro Man), for giving me a fairy tale to believe in. Five Stars is really not enough…I want to give hundreds!!

Ree Drummond is well known for her successful cooking program on the Food Network, for her wonderfully practical and delicious cookbooks, her fascinating and useful blog, her talent as a photographer, her work in homeschooling and, at least in my view, for her incredibly handsome and attractive husband. Now we get to read the true story of how Ree met and married “Marlboro Man” her real life, oh-so-sexy husband. This very enjoyable book is a quick read because you can’t put it down. I found myself reading late into the night wanting to find out what would happen on the sometimes rocky road to the altar. Ree is open and honest but charmingly discreet about their dating and about the family crisis that threatens to blow up all her well made plans for a lovely wedding. While we know there are problems in her parents marriage (they eventually divorce), we don’t know what the root of the problems is. Her discrete handling of this difficult family tragedy is respectful and tasteful. In this day of Hollywood journalism and way too much information about almost everyone, it is refreshing to be able to read a story that respects the real life characters and their intimate lives. We truly feel the pain of the individuals involved without having to intrude upon their private lives. While Ree does not discuss her religious beliefs it is clear that she is grounded in “good, old-fashioned values” and that those values have held her in good stead through out her many career and life changes. Originally planning to only stay in Oklahoma for a short time before starting law school in Chicago, Ree shares her self doubt and worry and the challenges of breaking up with a long time boyfriend back in Los Angeles and then quickly deciding to marry her cowboy and live on a ranch. We can see her grow in confidence (sometimes) and maturity as she faces and deals with the changes that life in small town Oklahoma presents. This book was a joy to read the whole way through. I have to admit that I wanted to know more about Ree and Marlboro Man (she never tell us his name but it is easy to find on the internet). Buying one of her cookbooks (I now have both) lead me to this charming autobiography and now I hope she will combine her many blog posts and continue her story in more books about her life with the VERY handsome Marlboro Man and their four children.

From the title on, I was hooked. I could hardly put it down. Having discovered Ree well into her fame, I’ve had lot of catching up to do. This book helped to firm-up my thoughts on the character of both Ree and Ladd. What honest, hard-working folks they are. I try not to miss her TV shows, love her blog, and think her line of kitchen ware is superb. She tells it like it is in this look back at her life. I sure hope she writes another book taking up where this one left off. Now we get to wish her well on her newest venture with the Mercantile. What a strong spirit! You go girl!

I read this book because I wanted to learn more about Ree and how she got her start with Marlboro Man. This is a truly great book that feels like sitting down and talking with your best friend instead of reading a memoir. Her stories are told in the same “voice” as her blog posts, and I was very happy to see that after reading the book in the back she included recipes for every meal she talks about. If you are a Pioneer Woman fan you will truly enjoy reading this story as well as laughing along and even shedding tears with Ree.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Ree’s romance with MM before the wedding sounded a lot like mine with my farmer. The pain of divorce, death, crashing commodity markets, and immense hormone fluctuation portrayed in their first year of marriage brought back a flood of my own memories and a few fresh tears. I appreciated in the new content how she referred to herself as the “buffer” between her husband and the cold winter, the poor commodity markets; the person to make life more bearable for him in the midst of hardship. There is no controlling on her part or attempts shown to manipulate her husband. I appreciate her attitude of respect toward him depicted from one cover to the other and will request my daughters to read it before marriage. There is much joy in simple everyday life.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a great love story and it brought back so many memories of when my husband and I were dating. I laughed until I cried so many times while reading this book that I lost count. I loved the part when her mother knocked on the truck window at 2 a.m. in the morning to ask if it were Ree in the truck. First, what mother would casually stroll up to a strange truck parked in her driveway at that time of the morning dressed in her nightclothes and knock on the window? Wouldn’t most of us just phone 911? There was a very cold night when my husband and I were dating that we sat out in his truck in the driveway until odd hours of the night. We had the motor running to keep the heat going and that means the running lights were on (keep in mind that we were in our thirty’s.) My father attempted to come out of the house several times to bring the garbage to the street for the next morning’s trash collection. Each time he opened the door, the lights blinded him. He finally just gave up and went to bed. We still, to this day, laugh about that incident. Ree Drummond tells a story about how they both got food poisoning from lobster while on their honeymoon in Australia. Oh! How I laughed! My husband and I traveled to Boston a few years ago and we ate lobster. I had this idea that if I ever ate lobster, it would be in Boston. I had a reaction to the lobster and was violently ill for most of the night. I remember lying in bed willing the impending stomachache to just go away (we’ve all been there.) The longer I lay there, the worse it got until finally (I’ll leave out the details) I couldn’t pretend any longer. My husband was so scared that he prayed the entire night. I felt so sorry for the people in the hotel suite next to us. I am certain; their stay was not pleasant thanks to me. My husband wanted to take me to the hospital but I was so sick, I could not move. I have to say, it wasn’t funny then, but reading about the Drummond honeymoon made me cackle aloud! Ree is a down to earth woman to which we can all relate. She does not pull any punches and tells you like it is with humor. Anyone who loves a love story will enjoy this book. It is about meeting Mr. Right and falling hopelessly in love. It is a great read.[…]

Ree Drummond sets a fantastic picture that any 80’s and 90’s era young woman can relate to in regards to fashion, dating, post-college decision making… probably all but the Wrangler and chink wearing specimen of cowboy hotness she encounters by chance. As eager as I was to hear all about Marlboro Man and how and when I could clone him for my own, I was equally anticipating all of Ree’s dating blunders and ‘hoof’,err foot-in-mouth incidents of dating a guy from another town who lives a life completely opposite of hers, yet that are easily relatable and kept you wanting more. I found myself feeling sad for her one moment and laughing at what a dope she was in another and at the same time, pictured myself. This book is a very funny, heart-warming and a must-read for a break from our fast-paced east-coast reality. Seeing that Pesky Tim is married, does Marlboro Man have a handsome and sweet cowboy cousin?

I can’t say enough about this book. I finished it in less than 24 hours. I’m a huge fan of Ree’s blog and have been looking forward to the book release for a while. Yes, I did read the first part of the story on her blog a while back but that just made me want to read it again and find out the rest that isn’t included. I find her to be a really honest writer and love her dreamy descriptions of Marlboro Man and the beautiful landscape of Oklahoma. I felt like I was out there on the Ranch with her a lot of the time. I just didn’t want it to end. Before I was even halfway through I had ordered and sent a copy to my best friend who I know will love it as much as I did. If you like great love stories that make you believe in true love and that chivalry is not in fact dead, you’ll love this story. Highly recommended.

I live in the same area the author grew up in and later wrote the book about meeting and falling love with the Marlboro Man in the surrounding land, so this book has been an absolute delight. I can relate to every sentence of every page. Ree Drummond is an author with a captivating story to tell. It’s a “just right” love story, not too innocent, but goes just far enough to hold your interest in the sexy department. This love story is told with honesty, adoration, and raw emotion; I absolutely loved it! Ree has such a special writing voice, like you are sitting in her living room with her. This is more than a modern Green Acres. It is about overcoming fears, discovering true passion, compromise, and trusting one’s heart. Ree tells it like it is and I found myself laughing at the phrases she used to describe embarrassing moments and her reactions in the adventures on the ranch. It was such an enjoyable read that I finished it in a day and a half. If you enjoy a great love story, you will not be disappointed in this one. Just loved it!!!! Black Heels to Tractor Wheels was pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to be. I really like Ree’s writing style on her blog, when I read the portion on her website I did note that there were grammar errors (but I can’t speak much on that as my grammar is pretty bad also), but the book does correct many of the before errors. I almost skipped the first half because I thought it would be identical to the blog version but it wasn’t, which it made the purchase of this book worth it to me. I loved the extra details she added. I also liked how although it seems written like a “typical love story” it’s not. It is her story. She doesn’t sugar coat that she wasn’t the most pleasant person at times and that she made mistakes. She speaks honestly of the struggles her first year of marriage, which I find very…humanizing (not sure that’s a word), it makes her seem like a down to earth person telling, remembering out loud her story with close friends. No the writing style is sophisticated, but I didn’t expect it to be, and I am glad she didn’t try to change her writing style from her blog to her book. It keeps her consistent and honest in my mind.

There was a time in my life where I was a college graduate, working at a pizza shoppe, searching for a teaching job, looking for love, and living with my grandparents. During this time I discovered Ree Drummond and her blog, The Pioneer Woman. Everything I made came from her site. Everyday I checked her site. I was mildly obsessed. I no longer work in a pizza shoppe, I am a high school art teacher, my grandma has passed away, and I am still looking for love. Like all things, they have a season. While I still check in on the Pioneer Woman from time to time, I am no longer obsessed. One thing that I will say, is that I really liked this book. It was fun to read about her life and everything that lead to her having a successful blog. This is a nice and quick read. I find her to be pretty funny and that came across in her writing. I would recommend this book!

Ree has an amazing “way with words” to make the reader experience her past with her in all of its glorious, hilarious detail. The lust and admiration she feels for her husband is enviable. She shared her thought processes and feelings in each situation with abandon and humorous bluntness. I learned so much about ranch life, which is valuable as I live in Texas and grew up a city girl on the northeast coast. I’m certain that her eyes have been opened about the realities of ranching! I despised every time I had to put the book down to keep life going.I even chuckled to see that some of her recipes must not have been proofread before publishing. (Thankfully I received all of her cookbooks for Mother’s Day!)

Well, you’ll probably get the Lisa Douglas reference if you are over a “certain age” (try looking up “Green Acres”). Try country boy marries very city girl. There is just something about a fine looking cowboy in well fitting Wranglers that causes most any hot-blooded female’s head to swivel around like it’s got a GPS unit inside and keep track of the rear end filling out those jeans.I loved Ree’s story including or maybe especially all the mishaps along the way (what was that cow’s temp again). This was a sweet love story and I thank Ree for letting all of us get a glimpse of it. Very few times does a book get me at chapter one and not bore me past chapter 3. I could not put this book down. I read the whole thing. It was so enjoyable and being a mom I could relate. I so enjoyed reading this book. I laughed so hard in parts, especially when her purse spilled everywhere. Who hasn’t had that happen? It gives me hope that all is not lost in love and there are good guys out there. I would give 10 stars if I could.

I ended up listening to the sound recording of this book. It was GREAT!! Being a redhead (before it turned “Pewter”) I could so relate to a lot of Ree’s comments about being a redhead. What a wonderful love story – indeed took me back to when I first met my husband!! Inspired to go visit “The Mercantile” her store in Oklahoma and see first hand the beautiful country she writes so descriptive about! Highly recommend this book!!

I was glued to this book from the start. It is a must read for Pioneer Woman devotees to understand how Ree went from being a girl with her eyes set on big city life to her conversion to a ranch wife and mother. You’ll love every bit of it.I only wish she had more continuing books to read on her life as she knows how to tell a great story!!She’s also included some mouth watering classic “Ree recipies” at the back of the book!!Yum!!

I love The Pioneer shows but there really needs to be some new one. The reruns are getting very very frustrating. I have seen some of these shows at least 5 times or more. The shows are very down to earth and depict real family life. Smf Ree is a great cook. I have learned several things from her about cooking and have made several of her recipes. I am still trying to figure out where she cooks and where they sleep etc. The Lodge and the house are confusing as to what goes on at either place. It seems like she does all the cooking at the lodge and everything else at the house but then sometimes she is cooking at the house as she says the kids are all asleep upstairs and she is cooking for the next day

I almost didn’t order this book based on some of the reviews but I gave in and got it, and boy am I glad I did! I enjoyed this book a great deal. It was written just as if she was talking to you and although she’s no literary genius, she’s not totally lacking in writing skills either. And what others saw as a story about a man who won’t give and a woman who ‘gives up her career for a man’, I saw a woman who fell deeply in love with a man and a man who fell deeply in love with a woman. In his profession, it’s not like he would be ready, willing and able to just pick up and leave. That doesn’t make him selfish, it just is what it is when you live that life. Therefore, her choices were easy, leave and go to Chicago and give him up forever, or stay with him and give up Chicago forever. It seems to me that instead of giving anything up, she found something she wanted more and decided the ‘big city’ wasn’t that important after all. It might not happen for everyone, but I don’t see what is so wrong with a woman, who finds absolute, true love, choosing that instead of a career! Maybe more women these days should try it!

Unexpected! I have watched her show before, but I don’t follow her per se. This is such a beautiful love story! It should have been told. Good for Ree & Marlboro Man, glad they have made it!

Love this book! I will be honest, at first I thought Re was a bit corny, quite corny actually. But I grew to love this book and her other book which was a continuation of this book. It’s light, funny, just a completely fun and feel good book with the realization that crazy things can happen in life and life can still be good.

Absolutely loved this book! It was much better than I thought it would be. I love how she’s captured her and her husbands love story for her kids and future grandkids to read one day

I just caught Ree Drummond on her TV show, and I’m happy I did. Decided I’d give her book a try. This story made me smile, chuckle and laugh out loud. It’s a fast and easy read, I read it in one day, I’m retired and have a lot of time on my hands. It’s well written, well edited, with few errors. A gentle and heartfelt story of her journey into the land (or should I say cattle ranch) of true love and I fell in love with both of them along the way. Maybe a little more with Marlboro Man, even though I’m old enough to be his mother and closing in on being his grandmother. What a cutie.I think the Pioneer Women is a good author, she’s very funny, and has a nice easy knack for story telling. I look forward to reading her other books, that hopefully she will write about her beautiful family and of course Marlboro Man.Give this one a try, It’s very enjoyable.

A co-worker (whose sense of humor I trust) recommended this book to me and I loved it! I’m not normally a giggler so when my eight year old son saw me giggling so hard that I was crying, he actually became a little nervous- oh no, mom has finally flown the coop!! Now if I had read her blog and found this to be much of the same stuff, I would have been disappointed, but I had never heard of Ree prior to this. I could so identify with the crazy things that happened to her and her choice of words just cracked me up!If you need a good laugh, and a sweet love story, this would be it.
