    Please bear with me; my preamble is long but necessary.My wife and I grew up near Gettysburg. We went to the battlefield and its associated museums several times a year for recreation, experienced several walking tours, and had the hardest-core Civil War buffs for Social Studies and History teachers that you can imagine. My wife spent much of her teenage years in the living history reenactment community, participating in living history clubs, the big reenactments, and “period-set” parties for some of the area’s aficionados. We experienced the museum’s electronic maps before it was torn down.We both, if anyone, should have a good working knowledge of where things happened, in what order, and why.Now we do.This one-hour special is the absolutely most successful device we’ve experienced to actually enable you to visualize these things. We finally “get it”. And Mr. Boritt achieved this without the distraction of a single live-action reenactor, using voiceovers and camera drones to take you there in your mind.To be clear, there is a LOT of missing detail in this piece, but that’s okay. This is a 1 hour “overview”. Much of the detail we already knew spontaneously came to mind during this documentary but, for the first time, with good solid context and understanding.The only negative was how thoroughly this documentary incorrectly implied how very much the war was about Slavery for the average soldier, and even for most of the southern senior officers. This has been thoroughly debunked.Still, Bravo. This documentary is great for what it is.

    As a Gettysburg resident, I have the honor of driving through these sacred battlefields whenever I choose to do so. However, the aerial/time lapse scenes that make up this incredible DVD are, simply put, stunning; and it’s these views you don’t normally see while driving that really make this something to watch over and over again! If you’re looking to learn every detail about the battle then this isn’t for you. If you already know the basic history and want to sit back and enjoy a mesmeric, scenic ride through time then this is a must for the DVD collection!

THIS 3 DAY BATTLE SOMETIMESIS THOUGHT TO BE THE TURNING POINT IN THE WAR; PERHAPS FROM A PRACTICAL VIEWPOINT (AND PROPAGANDA)IT MIGHT BE, THOUGH I THINK ANTIETAM WAS REALLY THE TURNING POINT BECAUSE SOME WEAKNESSES OF LEESSTRATAGIES SHOWN THRU THERE. LEE WAS LUCKY TO GET HIS ARMY AWAY INTACT THANKS TO A SPINELESSMCCLELLAN. ANYHOW THIS DVD TAKES YOU ON AN JOURNEY ABOVE AND AROUND THE FIELDS OF BATTLE AS THEYARE TODAY, WELL PRESERVED ALLMOST UNCHANGED FROM 1963. THE SKY VIEWS FLYING OVER A FOGGY MORNINGMIST IS EERIE AND YET MESMERIZING. WHEN I VISITED THE PLACE SOME YEARS BACK AND WALKED OVER THEVERY GROUND WHERE SO MANY BRAVE YOUNG MEN GAVE THEIR LIVES FIGHTING FOR WHAT THEY BELIEVED, I FELT A SADNESS CREEP OVER ME; HOW MANY YOUNGSTERS IN THEIR PRIME DIED HERE AS I TROD OVER THESACRED SOIL. I COULD ALMOST HEAR THEM TALKING ABOUT GOING HOME AFTER THE WAR. MANY NEVER DID.FOR SOME REASON I FIND MYSELF EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO THIS PLACE, THOUGH THE WAR WENT ON 2MORE BLOODY YEARS. AS LEE WAS PULLING OUT, THE WORD CAME THAT VICKSBURG ON THE MISSISSIPPI HAD FALLEN, GIVING CONTROLOF THE MIGHTY MISS TO THE UNION, DIVIDING THE CONFEDERACY FOREVER. LEE MUST HAVE SENSED THE WARWAS GOING TO BE LOST. A GOOD MAN ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY. THE PHOTOGRAPHY IS BEAUTIFUL; THERE ARE NO RE-ENACTORS HERE. YOU ARE TAKEN AROUND THE BATTLEFIELD AS THE NARRATOR DISCRIBES WHAT HAPPENED AT EACH PLACE. WELL DONE, PRODUCERS, WELLDONE INDEED. LIKE ALL DVDS I GOT THIS THRU AMAZON.

    Stephen Lang who’s Talent Forever Immortalized Generals George Pickett and Stonewall Jackson does a BRILLIANT Job and Provides a Narration that Exceeds INTENSE!! Jake Borrit’s skill as a director gives us an Unbelievable View of the Battlefield of Gettysburg demonstrating the true Beauty and Benefit of Modern Technology. The detail of facts are Grand as the Camera hover’s over The Peach Orchard, Devils Den, and the entirety of the rest of the Battlefield. The film gives even the newest student to Gettysburg, an easy understanding of the events that took place on the fields of Gettysburg. For a Serious Military Buff like myself who is taking his first trip to Gettysburg in 1 week, This film made me have an Excitement Overdose!!! My only critique if I may have just one, was that I wish the film could have been 2 hours and filled with more facts of each days Battles and a discussion on the Aftermath and some facts on the Reunions and Creation of the Gettysburg National Military Park. But that aside, I absolutely LOVED this film!!! A+

    This is one of the best productions I have watched regarding the 3 days of fighting at Gettysburg. Although for those with knowledge of the battle, it may seem there is not much new, but I so disagree. Just the presentation alone was worth the watching. Not only is it visually wonderful, but the personal stories recounted during the viewing were so interesting. For me it made the battle so much more human in the telling. A different presentation than I have seen before, but definitely excellent.. I have been to Gettysburg several times, and each time I discover more about this battle that changed the course of the Civil War. The DVD provided further enlightenment. Just wonderful!!

The story is narrated by the outstanding actor/narrator Stephen Lang (General George Pickett in the movie “Gettysburg” and Thomas J. (Stonewall” Jackson in the movie Gods & Generals). Lang narrates not only the story but the leading figures that were in the battle. From Robert E. Lee to a private John C. West of the 4th Texas Infantry, Lang gives the emotions and the accents that bring the men to life.Jake Borritt directed stunning visual views of the battlefield and monuments located throughout Gettysburg National Military Park. Absolutelybeautiful scenery that 155 years ago was truly “the Valley of the Shadow of Death.” This DVD is particularly significant because of the angles and locations of the battlefield that Borritt directed. From a “flying overhead” sequence to an up close and personal view of the monuments, “The Gettysburg Story,” is a very welcome addition to the story of the battle of Gettysburg. The background music is superb and in the second DVD is the story of how the DVD was made by Borritt who dedicated the movie to his father, the outstanding historian Gabor Borritt.You don’t have to travel to Gettysburg first to enjoy this movie. When you see it, you feel like you are right there in the battlefield. If you do plan to visit the battlefield, then you must see this first to understand how big of a battle it was and the different scenery and locations that were part of the battle.I can’t recommend this DVD highly enough. It is a MUST have for any serious historian, student, enthusiast and author of the battle. It is one of the best if not the best movies about the battle of Gettysburg produced thus far. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Judge for yourself — I bought extra copies and donated one to the local Drum Barracks in Wilmington California and I gave one to the Orange County Civil War Round Table and I gave one to a friend. i\This is one of the most incredible videos or films I have ever seen.     Loved it !!! The history is well told but the imagery is breath taking. The use of cameras on air borne drones is spectacular. The early morning, sunrise shots before people are on the field of battle gives a haunting yet reverent quality to the film. The extras are also extremely enlightening. Overall, the next best thing to being able to be there ! Great job.

    It was a different experience of the Gettysburg battlefield then what we see in movies and documentaries. I enjoyed the presentation of the aerial photography and gave a more complete view of the battlefield then when you visit. The landscape came alive and you get a better perspective of what the armies dealt with those three days in July. It is an excellent addition in my video library.

    Four score and seven years ago our father’s brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we do this. But in a larger sense we cannot dedicate we cannot consecrated we cannot hallow this ground.     A beautiful portrayal of the battlefield and the monuments upon it. The night time lapse photography, gives the viewer an aspect of Gettysburg that one would otherwise not be able experience. The explanation of the music and photography development was especially beneficial to the viewing enjoyment. But the powerful ending of the film, the reading by the narrator, Stephan Lang of Lincoln’s address coupled with the aforementioned music and photography, quite moving! Thank You

    My girlfriend loves the Civil War (and is a bit of a history buff when it comes to the subject). She loves Gettysburg, so I bought her this movie for Christmas. Seeing that she’s such a fanatic, I’ve watched plenty of documentaries about Gettysburg and The Civil War, and this ranks up there was the best of them. It has amazing cinematography (downright beautiful), it’s extremely well done, and whether you’re an expert or a newcomer, it gives the story of Gettysburg a new life.

    The use of drones give a little different perspective to a lot of the views in the video. The coverage of different events at Gettysburg moves pretty quickly so I freeze frame a lot of scenes and maps to get a little better look at them. Overall I really enjoyed this documentary. Would recommend.

    It really is true when they say you’re seeing the battle and battlefield in a way you’ve never seen it before. In a one hour presentation it’s impossible to do the three days complete justice, but the method of presentation more than makes up for that. In the Gettysburg Story you get the feeling you’re really there. You see and feel the terrain, most especially the difficulty the Confederate forces faced in assaulting Little Round Top, the folly of Sickles’ displacement of his troops, and the long, arduous, and disastrous field of attack on the third day. All in all, this is an excellent presentation of the battle of Gettysburg, and a very helpful tool for the student of the battle to have.

    First off this is a fabulous film. It is beautifully filmed. The blu ray is outstanding. The use of the drones and helicopters is genious. Using Stephen Lang to narrate this was the perfect choice. Ive studied this battle for 25 years and hadnt seen a film which shows the park itself in all its own glory. Finally its here. Thanks to all who worked on and funded this project. In my opinion its up there with Ken Burns and the movie. Gettysburg. One can always find something thatthey would like to have seen. For me that would have been the Railroad Cut on the first days battle. Being from Wisconsin and read countless memoirs this ommision is not unusual. After the war some veterans made a real effort to show its importance.i took the audio tour on one trip and felt like it was very incomplete. So if this film is based on that i can understand a bit more about my issue with that. Its only my opinion. I recommend if you have the time you walk through the park. see more monuments.and get the feel of the battlefield especially walking across Picketts Charge to the copse of trees. Aside from all that i love this film. It makes the Park come alive.. Highly recommended!

    The camera work is outstanding. The drone fly overs are breathtaking. I enjoyed the fact no actors were used just the statues used to tell the story with great narration filling in the history. One of the best retelling of the Gettysburg story.

    I purchased this movie on the advice of my brother, who works at a Civil War museum. It is visually stunning. As difficult as it is to tell a 3 day story in just over an hour, this film achieves it. Since it was filmed at Gettsyburg national park, it was extremely helpful for my students to see the terrain of the area. We live in a different part of the country and most of my middle schoolers will never travel there. The movie held the attention of even my most hard-to-please students. I highly recommend it!

    Excellent! If you don’t already own it, then get it quickly! Even though I have been to Gettysburg twice,this really helped me gain a stronger understanding of where the major fighting actually took place. The camera views bring it all together. Well worth your time and money!

    It was a gift to a CW friend of mine. Jake took the viewers on a historic tour of the Battle of Gettysburg in a way no other produced has. A great film that any CW historian and citizen should watch.

    The story follows the Gettysburg Auto Tour, narrated by Steven Lang, (Gettysburg, Gods and Generals, Avatar.) I would buy it just because I like Steven. I spent some time with him at Gods and Generals Filming in 2003. The filming techniques makes the Blu-ray Disk worth the price because of the wonderful shots of the Battlefield .If you have spent as much time there as me ,you will absolutely love this DVD, buy it!

    I enjoyed this DVD and will watch it again, mostly because of the interesting visual perspectives. Some portions of the battle were neglected but that’s probably unavoidable. This is a feast for the eyes for someone who knows the battlefield and perhaps a way to inspire interest in someone who doesn’t. I only wish it was twice as long. Now if we could just convince them to produce similar material for other historic sites…

    This is a must see for anyone interested in Gettysburg. It is well done with no actors, only the real terrain, the real structures, the real paths of attack. I don’t like spending ten bucks for a one hour short this is worth it. Recommended.

    Have been to Gettysburg more times than I can count and there isn’t much I haven’t seen on the battlefield or even know about the battle. I also own several DVD’s and books on Gettysburg, but this Gettysburg Story is really quite unique and I highly recommend it to anyone from casual buff to professional historian.

    We enjoyed the presentation of the battle in human terms as well as battle decisions by commanders. Too many historians have analyzed battles in terms of what the generals decided and little else. While this is of paramount importance, we need to feel the emotions, the pain, the sacrifices that go into any battle. It is never just about the soldiers because there are always “innocent” civilians in the line of fire, too.

    I ordered this DVD after I had visited the battlefield, and it was right on point. I own several Gettysburg DVD’s and this is by far the best one. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who is interested in the battle. It was money well spent.
