This book is an easy read with practical advice for how to incorporate more Joy into your everyday life. The author makes a good point that we only get one shot at this thing called life and why do we waste so much time working/worrying/caught in the grind instead of enjoying the time we have! Her focus on not letting small inconveniences take away from your happiness hit home for me–someone cuts you in drop off line, don’t waste time being angry find the joy in getting a few extra minutes with your kiddo or favorite song. One of my favorite lines in the book was when she and her husband notice one seeming grumpy or off and they, in a loud announcer voice, say “LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY NEEDS SOME JOY!!!” We have started doing that in our house and it is a nice way to get a change in mindset! I also love the “Crappy to Happy” catch phrase, definitely a new phrase around here! Buy this book! It will be sure to bring JOY to you!

Finding joy amongst the stresses of family life and work can be difficult. Lisa Even’s JOY is My Job gave me creative ideas and the tools to find the time in a busy schedule to infuse joy in places I might not have thought to look. “Joy can be a part of the ‘busy’”. The authentic life experiences described in the book jumpstarted me into thinking about my own experiences. The book includes a mindset of joy, barriers to joy, and a joy framework. This can be a great read for one person, a book club or a group of co-workers and includes a Joy Check-In sheet as well as discussion questions to further your joy journey.

“…a person puts on their attitude, just like they put on their clothes.”I am always searching for more joy in my life. And sometimes, I need a reminder to stay focused on that. This book perfectly gave me the proverbial kick in the a$$ to not lose sight of my own joyful goals!I started writing down quotes from this book as I was reading that really hit. So many things in this book resonated with me –I ended up losing count of them all. My copy now has so many stars and highlighted passages and markups.Don’t wait to read this book. Scheduling joy into my life was never something I thought to prioritize until I started reading JOY is My Job. Now, scheduling joy may seem a little overwhelming–it did to me at first too!–but as I dove into this book, I realized how simple it really could be. The author gave such tangible ways to incorporate joy into the life I’m living right now and I’m so grateful for the small but impactful perspective shift.

I was really inspired by the simple ideas in Joy is My Job! This book offers so many ideas for intentionally choosing joy. It helped me rethink my mindset and consider how to look for joy in everyday experiences. I really like the concept of turning “crappy into happy.” One of my favorite quotes from the book was, “joy is your legacy for yourself…and others.” What a great reminder to be joyful every day!
