Dr. Barrett is spot on identifying the modern day conundrum society has created for itself. His problem definition is clear and concise and his solutions are simple to follow. As an executive, who must navigate myself and others to achieve a life balance at work, I strongly suggest “Caveman Bodies” as required reading for any manager looking to create a healthy environment in a competitive world.

I liked the book. It’s an easy read. It has good info about what we should be doing to live a more balanced, healthy life. A big plus for me is that the book explains why certain eating and working habits cause stress in our bodies. (Knowing the “why” always helps me grasp new concepts better and gives me more incentive to make changes.) Most importantly, and unlike many self-improvement books, this book offers constructive info and plans for how to make the necessary adaptations in your life. I’m going to hang onto it as a reference book.

An excellent read. I stumbled upon this book by accident. As a health conscious person, I found this to be insightful and could see how “corporate personnel” who live sedentary lives, can benefit from the Dr’s advice

It has been some time since I was sucked in to reading a book by the promised of cartoons inside, but I am so glad that I was! This book is effortless to read as it flows logically, succinctly, and intuitively through each topic discussed. Dr. Barrett, given his long years in the corporate jungle before finding his true path as a practitioner of Eastern Medicine, is uniquely qualified to share advice in this well-written book. He provides many excellent examples of why we react to things the way we do, how to avoid that behavior going forward, and how to make the most of our innate skills for success while reducing the accompanying stress caused by chasing our goals along the way. One unexpected side-benefit of the book for me is the Qi Gong exercises, which Dr Barret introduces and demonstrates in photos. Rare is the day that I do not begin with this routine for stretching aging joints while allowing my mind to focus on the work ahead. Great Read!

Humans are on an evolutionary trajectory that is coupled with unprecedented and rapid technological advances. Dr. Barrett’s book, Caveman Bodies in a Corporate Jungle: How to stay healthy while excelling in a work environment provides a significant scholarly and timely review of the opportunities and challenges associated with our associated circumstances. Moreover, Dr. Barrett’s corporate jungle features reflects conditions inherent to other organization such as public education. High teacher turnover rates are noteworthy in public education. Implementation of Dr. Barrett’s strategies would positively impact student and educator experiences. Finally, Dr. Barrett’s recommendations are supported by current neuroeducational research and reflect brain-compatible practices. I highly recommend this book. In this very informative book, Dr. Barrett discusses self improvement from every angle possible. Meditation, proper eating habits, time management and so on. It all culminates in living a life in what Dr. Barrett classifies as the Optimal Health, Living and Longevity zone. I read the book when I could get my hands on it, as whenever I put it down, my wife would sneak off with it. If you are seeking a blueprint for how to manage your life, both personally and professionally, I highly recommend this book.

I love the fact that I can read the chapters in random order if I’m looking for answers to specific questions. However, I do recommend reading the whole book as it’s chock full of brilliant information. The writing is fluent and easy to comprehend. No fancy medical jargon or air of pretentiousness, although with Dr. Barrett’s credentials, talent and medical know-how, it’s pretty amazing how down-to-earth he is. I read the book because I am a former patient — I was barely 24 when I was rear-ended and left with debilitating pain that cost me my job and prevented me from walking without excruciating pain. I tried physical therapy, massage, chiropractic adjustments but nothing worked until I started acupuncture treatments with Dr. Barrett. He gave me my life and freedom back and I haven’t had any pain related to the accident since then. If you’re blessed to live in L.A., do yourself a favor and book a session with him. He’s the funniest guy I know and will put you in a better mood with his humor and his needles. If you’re not in L.A., do the next best thing and read his book. It combines the best of East and West healing practices and gives you an excellent guide on how to navigate life in the corporate world, or any field of work, to be honest. I may have picked up his book because I was his patient but I’m reviewing and referring others to his book because of how great and helpful it is. Read it, you won’t regret it.

Having a background in both Corporate America and Eastern Medicine, Dr Barrett speaks from experience and is a very relatable author. Reading this book made me realize how simple steps toward self awareness can easily lead to the creation of and adherence to constructive habits. His process feels both manageable and natural and I can see myself continuing to apply it over the long term. This book is a pleasure to read. I highly recommend it anyone who has a desire to break the monotony of the daily grind.

This book was very informative and fascinating. It consisted of great ideas which were not based strictly on positive thinking but were backed up with actual studies. The author writes in an easy-to-understand manner and communicates events which we all have encountered in the business world. Anyone in any occupation can greatly benefit from this book. My only criticism was that the book ended!

I searched online for answers to my illness and health issues and I ran into Dr. Barrett’s website. After reading the reviews from his patients, I decided to make an appointment to see him. This is the best life-changing decision I ever made. His book guides you to self-improvement in all areas of your life, body and soul. There is discussion about daily eating habits with tangible examples to create your own grocery list. He talks about how to deal with stress, optimize your time, confront internal unresolved issues and get in touch with your inner self. It’s informal title and relaxed cartoons do not do justice to his well written book. There are several enticing techniques that will help you structure a new/better/solid life and if you follow his book, you will successfully improve several areas of your life: health, diet, mind, time and challenges. Reading this book along with a having few sessions (Video/In-Person) with Dr. Barret immensely improve my life and I can say my body has healed and I no longer need a surgery other doctors recommend as the only available solution. Dr. Barret is an expert on East-West Medicine. Results are real and I am grateful. I highly recommend this book and talking to him.

i really enjoyed reading this book and have repeatedly referred back to it for ideas to resolve stressful situations. Dr. Barrette’s knowledge and discussions cover a wide variety of stress management techniques that i had never seen addressed in one book before. But it makes sense that a good diet in addition to time management are two key factors to minimize stress. These are just 2 pearls of knowledge i found enlightening. There is so much more and i highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to have less stress, more success, and more time to enjoy life.~ Tara Chadda

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover but this one lived up to its catchy title and clever artwork. I mostly liked section 2 on the 3 Steps to Optimal Health, Productivity and Longevity. I have heard a lot about how important a good diet and stress management are, but Dr. Barrett really spells it out in a way that is easy understand and follow. Also, the chapter on the importance of a positive attitude really hit home. Dr. Barrett has a great method of benchmarking how positive you are and how to constantly improve. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in gaining an edge over their career and enjoyment of life.
