Of course, my life was changed a great deal by that man. In fact, I am only alive due to an action he took on February 24, 1972 while my ship was enroute to Cuba, but that story will have to wait for another time.I served in the Navy from 1970 to 1980. In 1972 my gunboat went on special ops in and around Cuba. A very good book. I always enjoy SEAL books. I like action in the chapters. I don’t care to learn about BUDS over and over again. There are many books out there on BUDS and shooting. William McRaven is a genuine badass. I had the honor to serve under a CO very much like McRaven. It was an experience which continues to benefit me and the people who worked for me. Besides riveting stories right out of the headlines, if you want to learn leadership, read this book.

This is a excellent book. The admiral covers so many different aspects of life in the military especially when it comes to being a Navy Seal. There was the perfect balance between war stories and entertaining stories. I have given this book as gift to individuals thinking about going in the military. This book is one of the finest motivational/leadership books I have ever read. Not only do you get stories that inspire you, the stories are well told and in some cases will bring you to tears. The Navy Seals really are the best of the best and Admiral McRaven’s stories and life prove that once again. His writing is like Aaron Sorkin meets Julius Caesar. I FOUND THIS BOOK AN EXCELLENT OVERVIEW OF NAVY SEAL TRAINING/OPERATIONS INCLUDING OTHER MILITARY SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES WORLDWIDE WHILES SERVING FROM ENSIGN TO ADMIRAL. THE SEA STORIES ARE PRESENTED IN A MANNER THAT CAN BE UNDERSTOOD WHILE BEING GRAPHIC ENOUGH TO QUALIFY AS SEA STORIES. MY THANKS TO ADMIRAL (RET) MC RAVEN FOR WRITING HIS BOOK. ANYONE INTERESTED IN A COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW OF THESE TYPES OF MILITARY OPERATIONS SHOULD FIND THIS BOOK INTERESTING.
