Driving results through team harmony
As a coach and consultant who frequently works with executive teams, I found that create an awareness around individual roles and their importance within a team craetes harmony. Anything that doesn’t have aplan or method of execution will take its own course, which usually ends up with substandard results. Using this book as a guide to see more clearly will litreally change the dynamics of an office simply because there is transparency and defined roles within the company.

Lovely to read and filled with practical guidance
“Growing Groups into Teams” is the first book I’ve ever read about building teams. And, honestly, I heard about the book only because one of the authors is a good friend. But regardless of that, I have to say I absolutely loved this book.First of all, it’s just so cool that a book about teams is written by a team. I love that the examples in the book are drawn from real experiences, so they engage you immediately. And I like that there’s plenty of guidance and advice for highest-level folks in organizations, rather than assuming they’re already perfect (because they’re not).There are really great chapters about the importance of trust, and about diversity (backgrounds, ages, locations, et al.). There’s even a chapter about the importance of body language in team building, and a lot more. If you’re looking to make your teams awesome, I’m absolutely certain this book will be a brilliant guide.

Just the right balance: A proven, practical bridge from leadership theory to practice.
This book hits on all cylinders.. covering the viewpoints of the business, the individual, the leader, and the team. And it’s practical; It is not a cookbook but there are enough (understandable) signposts to guide someone on their next steps. As a former leadership coach and OD specialist in a Fortune 50 company, the cases and examples really resonated for me but I can also see how this would apply to small and medium enterprises as well. This book makes these techniques accessible to them, as the truths about people and teams that they discuss here are universal. I especially liked seeing contributions from Bob Dunham, Sameer Dua, and Andrea Bordenca… they are all giants in the field of coaching and leadership development. Well done!

Real-world examples of team-building success; NOT academic
I have always been far too busy as a leader and/or member of teams getting things done everyday to actually slow down and read a book about it. But this book was recommended to me, and it resonates with me deeply because it describes what I have been a part of when I work in teams. Which is virtually all the time! Some teams just get the work done, and some seem to soar and endure. This book does a great job of giving quite readable accounts of examples of how the best teams are built and maintained. It’s heavy on real stories and light on the academic theory, which always works for me. Good stuff in here!

This wisdom shared by this book gives the reader the tools and a lens to identify what’s working and not working in teams. This allows leaders to focus on building a culture that fosters high-performance teams. It also helps identify the roots of dysfunction so those can be handled in a constructive way.The book imparts its wisdom in a way that sticks in your mind and lingers. It does this mostly through the power of asking the right question. I found myself contemplating some of questions it posed for days, on-and-off again; questions like “what is the outcome we want to produce and by-when”, “what are we paying attention to”, and “what are we doing to build trust in the team”.It walks through the journeys other leaders have taken exploring those concepts in an easy, conversational manner. This makes this an enjoyable and easy read.All in all, I highly recommend this book to both new leaders and established ones – the wisdom it contains is timeless and I’m confident you’ll get value from it.

A great primer on team building and why it matters!
This is a very relevant book today, in the post-covid WFH days. It is very easy to forget that teams are not just groups of people in the same department, area or project. You have to be deliberate in the creation of a team (vs the much less effective group: “Teams produce bigger results more consistently than groups.”). Remote work, with all its benefits, is making teams much harder to create, and no less necessary. A key tener posited by the authors is that teams are, at their core, built for a common objective with the glue being conversations. Personal communication is what allows that disparate group to become a hard-working team. (“ The most fundamental action of team leaders and members is to choose which conversations to have and how and when to have them.”). The book gives great and specific tips and tools on how to create, manage, and grow highly effective teams. As a seasoned CEO I found many valuable lessons here and would recommend it to anyone that wants to get the best out of their organization.
